Goblin Camper

May I get your opinion if the Goblin would have any issues towing this little camper, dry weight is 580lbs.

I dont see an issue with the Goblin pulling this.

I have been dreaming about tear drop trailers for awhile. You might want to join some of the Facebook groups on them. Actually an easy build, especially for someone who has built a few Goblins.

I need to talk to DF about putting a receiver hitch on the new rear suspension........

In my mind 580 lbs is getting to the limit of what a Goblin should probably be pulling. Short wheelbase and lightweight at some point means the trailer may "drive" the car during some sort of emergency/evasive maneuver. Where that limit is will be hard to pin down, but more to think about than will it pull and stop it.

in that case you might wanna go to a specialist in trailers or just say hey let’s try it and see what happens lol

What’s the guys name on here that made a trailer out of thr back half of his donor? I would like to see how much weight he was towing during race week?

@ Jason d, The red Lotus with tear drop trailer is a Stalker V6 with a 2.8 V6 and Chevy S 10 drive train. So, it has no problem with the trailer. My Birkin with a Ford Zetec will pull one, but strain a bit more than the Stalker. The Lotus Seven replicas with motorcycle engines would pull it, but you put a bit of a strain on that drive train.

The red Stalker V6 you pictured was built by a fellow in Houston, Texas and I delivered it to Des Moines, Iowa to Sugargrove Cars, where this picture was originally taken. Long ago history!!

Yeah I didn’t know what’s in the lotus but I guess you just answered your own question

The Cobalt trailer we built weighed in at about 800lbs completely empty so I'd have to guestimate that it was probably around 1200lbs or so full with the wheels on the front, our gear, tools, cooler, canopy, etc. I really thought it was going to be lighter than that so I was a little surprised to see that number on the scales! We had roughly 10% tongue weight empty but with the wheels on the front I'm sure that percentage was a little higher.
The Goblin had no problem accelerating with it but I also make a pretty decent amount of power, however, it really didn't like the highway speeds. The car is already not so aerodynamic and then we **** near doubled the weight and pulled a wall behind us. I'm sure the shopping cart on the roof was partly to blame too though.
Braking was fine but according to the laws I read you have to have trailer brakes if the trailer weighs more than half the vehicle weight so we were definitely illegal there but the car didn't have any issues stopping. I should probably mention that I have Brembos on all 4 corners so I'm sure that helped a bit. We didn't have any emergency stop situations so I can't say if it would have held traction or not under those conditions.
Steering was never an issue, we didn't had any understeer or trailer sway or anything. The steering did feel a little lighter than normal. It did a fantastic job of holding the car straight while doing burnouts though!
