Goblin Build Update: Wiring Woes, Progress, and a Lesson Learned
Hey everyone,
It’s been a little while since my last update but that doesn’t mean things haven’t been moving. I’ve been trying to sneak in work on the build whenever I can, even if I don’t always have time to sit down and post about it.
Wiring Harness Progress
Holy. Moly.
This wiring harness is no joke, but it’s finally starting to come together. I’d say I’m most of the way through, and about halfway through the final organization phase. Seeing it go from a chaotic mess of wires to something that actually makes sense has been incredibly satisfying.
I almost made it through the
entire harness process without burning myself…
…and then Easter weekend happened.
For reasons I still can’t explain, I grabbed the soldering iron from the wrong end. Instantly regretted that decision.
Lesson learned, again.
Game Changer: The Binder
One of the best things I’ve done recently was put together a binder with all the plugs and pinouts for the harness. That has been a
huge help in keeping everything straight and double-checking my work. I've also been keeping a log of the items I purchase in there and any design ideas that I have.
Also, big thanks to those of you who shared links and pictures for the connectors earlier, that saved me more time (and probably more mistakes) than you know. Seriously appreciated.
What’s Next
Next up on the list:
- Finishing up the clutch pedal connectors
- Continuing final harness organization
- Getting everything ready to start actually installing components (which I’m really excited about)
It finally feels like I’m getting close to turning the corner from “prep work” to actually
building the car.
Life & Build Balance
Things have still been busy on the home front, and man… what a winter that was. Between the cold and everything else going on, garage time has been hit or miss. Back in December my son got something called Kawasaki Disease, that was not a fun ride. He's fully recovered and no side effects, but dang.
I did take a break and build a guitar as a retirement gift. He retired after 40 years and was/is one of my best friends. Had a bunch of his closest friends in the office sign a book with custom notes to him and then I laser engraved them on the body too. Ill toss in a picture of that as well. haha
Hoping the weather starts cooperating so we can all either:
- Get out in the garage and make progress
- Or better yet… actually drive these things
