I think the drivers side linkage on the shifter is for the left and right movement of the shifter. If that's the case, then it should go in position B as you've drawn in that picture.
Not 100% sure on that as it's been 2 years since I installed my Cobalt shifter, 9 months since I uninstalled the Cobalt shifter and F35, and I don't have a Goblin in front of me at the moment- you need to figure out which linkage at the shifter is for forwards and reverse movement of the shifter, and which arm on the transmission it corresponds to, and then connect those two together. I believe the corresponding arm has the weight on it. It should go into position and stay there on its own, whereas the other arm on the transmission will want to revert back to its original position if both arms aren't actuated.
