I think aluminum is worth the upgrade. What makes a lightweight flywheel undesirable in any other car- that is, the lack of inertia makes it easier to stall and harder to take off- doesn't matter as much in a car that weighs half as much. Quicker revs are more fun and make for better shifting. Plus, on the next clutch change, I can just swap the friction surface.

Thank you. I was leaning that way but I guess I’m there now

To my surprise there is a spec clutch already installed. I was replacing it because it would lurch forward when I start the car and sometimes didn’t feel like it was holding. I’m now suspecting the slave cylinder more. It’s getting replaced too.

I am so relieved. I got all 3 of the slave cylinder bolts out. Striped one head but that’s easy to replace. No to decide if I put the new clutch in or reinstall the Spec clutch with the new slave. I’ll post pictures of the disk and pressure plate shortly. Would love some feedback on that

What looks like a grove on the pressure plate is not

The original flywheel and pressure plate don't look bad at all. A can of brake cleaner and a little scrub looks like a new clutch disc could be installed and it would be good to go - based on the details in the photos, IMO. Not having parts in hand may give a different result tho. Since you have everything apart and new parts in hand, install the new and get peace of mind.

It looks like the disc has been a little on the warm side. Hard to tell if thats a bad thing from the pics, though. It’s a lot of work to do it again and you have new parts in hand, I’d replace.

from trans to pass axle? GM is showing its part of the intermediate shaft assembly. If you pull the bearing, there’s usually numbers stamped on it that you can cross reference through a bearing supply. I’ll need the cobalt vin for exact part number.

I ordered extra TOB fasteners if you are having trouble finding them or don't want to wait for shipping.
