V1 SS/SC cooling mods

The rotors are a 4 lobe 180* twist vs 3 lobe 60* twist(i think) with the M62. Also it having a 1.3L displacement vs the 1L M62 means that it pushing more air more efficiently and at lower rotor speeds. I saw ~14psi with a 2.9" pulley on a M62 and am currently at ~17psi with a larger 3.15" pulley on my TVS. Looking back at my TVS vs M62 data, both superchargers reached around the same max IATs(~150*F) in a 2-3-4 gear pull but the TVS recovered quicker. Still a worthwhile upgrade for anyone with a supercharged Ecotec.

Also just putting this out there... Nitrous will help cool the charged air. Just saying...

Interesting info. So I'm still trying to get my Goblin built (so close!), but I'm thinking about my power adder phase. I, for some unknown reason, REALLY want to justify going with a TVS build, but I don't expect to run E85 for a street tune. For the money I know I can get more power from a turbo build. Even knowing that, I still looking for a reason to go TVS. Serious internal struggle on this, haha.

You could always go meth injection to cool it down. I think the meth would be beneficial on track and wouldn’t need to be used on the streets for just some pulls here and there

My Cavalier with a stock 2.2L Ecotec and a TVS with a 3.15" pulley LIGHTS the tires up in 1st gear at ANY RPM. 2nd gear kinda hooks. I have cars with both forms of boost. Supercharged Cavalier and turbocharged Lancer Ralliart(baby Evo X). I prefer the power delivery with a supercharger. It is instant and doesn't stop. Punch it at 1500rpm and I have boost. With my Lancer on it's stock turbo I don't have any boost below 2500rpm.

The LNF, in stock tune, produces maximum torque at 2000 RPM and is torque limited at high RPM by the tune.

The LSJ reaches peak torque at 4500 RPM, in the stock tune, and has no torque limiting.

Based on this factory HP/torque curve information the LNF produces 200 ft lbs at 1300 RPM and is reached at 4500 RPM in the LSJ. Turbo lag is not much of a factor, based on the factory information.

This is just information for the forum to review and make their own determination about what power delivery is best for them. :D

Update : it took about 10-15 minutes of the car being on and 5 of those freeway driving for the IAT2 temps to go above IAT1 . After that they stayed about 7-12 degrees above my IAT1 temps. Very happy with the results of this cooling overhaul project

It doesn’t take much to keep temps down during no boost runs, other than getting rid of heat soak after sitting. What does it do after after full throttle pulls through all the gears? Try accelerating up a long steep hill.

@Gtstorey even with no boost runs before I was still seeing almost a 30 degree difference. I’ve been unable to do some hard pulls with it as I had a small oil leak last night. Pretty sure my dip stick tube is broken

Just put water injection in mine but waiting for the solenoid to come in to make sure nothing gets into the system since I have to mount the tank around the same height as the nozzle. I did a couple pulls with just water alone as a test and didn't record the data but it was already looking very promising.

Thinking about adding a ice box to mine now I'm on a tvs with a 2.6 pulley have dual pass, intake spacer, ported head, stage 2 cams, neutral balance shafts e85 and 93 tune. I have the rear and front heat exchanger in loop and 2 IC pumps

That’s awesome! Debating on turbo for future power or the TVS but the TVS seems harder to get your hands on. I’m thinking the plus side to the turbo is the option to run the external intercooler that is probably more efficient than the LSJ intake manifold

Yea I was able to get mine for $1,400. Probably going to up the pulley to a 2.8

By chance, do you have dyno numbers for both tunes? It would answer so many questions I have. :D
