Some of you know I had some fall distractions around the homestead that I was racing to complete before the snow hit. 2 years the gates have been sitting here waiting for me to get'er done and weeeelll I STILL didn't quite make it.
my concrete guy showed up to check my progress and he says my 18" across auger-ed holes need to be larger in diameter. turns out one does not just use a skid steer auger to open up the diameter of hole from 18 to 24 inches. . . that is done by hand. mind you the holes are 5 foot deep and our weather dropped below freezing the next day and was followed up with snow for Thanksgiving so. . project shelved till spring.
Here is how it looks now. these are just attached to some stands I made to hold gate square until the concrete sets up (not squared in this photo). kinda look like minecraft armor stands lol. the posts are 10" dia 1/4 wall well pipe and 10 feet tall. the bottom flanges will bolt to 5 foot stubs set into concrete. once the concrete is in, these are scheduled for paint and the gate panels will get oil stained cedar attached to the house side. oh and the "hinges" are left over Cobalt rear hubs incase you were wondering about the 6 degrees of separation to a Gobin forum. lol
