I want to have a dual exhaust setup and I'm wondering how much the engine tuning is tied to the exhaust. Meaning, if I use something other than the goblin exhaust will it drastically affect the goblin performance?
You want the system to breath but...it doesn't take much for the ecotecs. The supercharged cars are known for being very loud so keep that in mind if you're running an SC car. It would be pretty difficult to cork up the system with this mid engine setup and short exhaust run.
The closest thing I’ve found to what I want is actually for a jeep. Seems like a small setup but has exits in each side of the muffler. I think it would look cool but not sure how it would effect things.
I considered that same setup but a lot of those single in, dual out, mufflers will not fit inside the frame of the goblin. Measure out your exhaust "box" and see what might fit without having exhaust hanging out too bar behind your headers/the car.
Ah ok. I don’t have the frame yet so I wasn’t sure how much space there is. Do you know of a different exhaust that does for sure fit? I don’t really like the looks of the muffler that comes in the kit.
Several owners have either built their own exhaust or had one custom-made. I believe one of the designs is for sale here on the forum, if I am not mistaken.
Forever Fabrication makes two different types of exhaust that will bolt right up to the Goblin. They look great, are expensive...and fairly loud. I ran the V1 for awhile and it hurt my ears at WOT...couldn't even hear the supercharger with the intake about 1 foot away. At the price they are listed you could easily have a shop build the exhaust you want for less. There is just over 24" of space between the frame so that will limit you on muffler size and what you do with the pipes. Some route their exhaust around the frame to overcome this but then, without a vband setup, you're stuck with it. I ended up placing a section of 3" auger in the system below to make it bearable.
If running a turbo car sound is attenuated at the turbo so you're off to a quieter start there. ZZPerformance and others make bolt up exhaust for the turbo Goblin.
