V1 Tinkles Street Monster - No donor Extended City chassis

Kyle, I was also spying the transmission shifter cable bracket in your photos, is this a Saab part or ??? It looks different than the DF cable bracket. Do you plan to use it or is there a different bracket you will be using? I am asking so I can be proactive to order the one that will work best with the F40.

Tinkles
That shifter cable bracket is what came on the transmission. I don't know if I'll be using it or not. It isnt something I am going to worry about until I have to.

Kyle, another question about the side pods and the relocation of the fuel filler bracket. I can just make out in one of the photos from last Friday (1/10) the bracket is above its original location. Can you shoot me a photo? I am contemplating whether to reuse the Cobalt one or order something more custom off eBay. Thanks, Tim

I doubt the fuel filler is staying there. With redesigning the fuel tank and with running the Radium FCST the fuel filler will most likely be moved to somewhere on the driver side probably behind the side pod. It is another thing that I am not worrying about right now. Once I finish the fuel tank design and have it made then I'll figure out exactly where I am going to put it.

OK, thanks. I went ahead and ground off the bracket from its original location and welded it in above that location and clear of the forthcoming side pod. I put some photos into my build log. I will stop hijacking your build log and will wait to see what you do with your fuel filler. :)

Tinkles
No worries. I understand why you are asking the questions, but alot of the stuff is not something I have to worry about now. I don't want to get too far ahead of myself and overlook something that needs to be done now/sooner.

The fab guys got busy with their day jobs and couldn't touch the Goblin for 3 weeks. But I did drop off the specs for the new fuel tank and decided on a location for the fuel filler. I am planning on making a video covering all of the changes that were/are being made once I get it back at my house.

I also got a nice order from Radium Engineering in which was all of the big/major items for my fuel system. Their Fuel Cell Surge Tank(FCST) is a VERY nice unit.

Now that the weather is getting warmer and seeing all of these new builds going on(with chassis numbers ALOT higher than mine) has got me antsy to start assembling mine, so hopefully it won't be at the fab shop too much longer.

Radium makes absolutely awesome stuff and by god they’re happy to charge you for it.

With the FCST, 3 fuel pumps @ $110 each, 2.2L surge tank(~$300 on its own), machined hat with bulkhead fittings and terminals and a bunch of odds and ends. For eveything that is included, I really dont see that much of a markup on it.

Another week or 2 and I should have the Goblin back. It won't be going to powder coat right away because I still need to mock up a few things and figure out what additional mounting tabs will be needed. Then fab shop guys will come to me to weld the tabs on(their idea). Also I haven't checked to see if the powder coat shop is even open. I don't want to call until all of the fab work is done and the car is ready to go to them.

I did grab a picture when I was there dropping off a few last minute things the other week.

The windshield is ~70% done. It is getting tied into the main hoop at the top corners. Aside from strengthening the windshield it should also help with getting in and out of it because so far all of my attempts to get in and out of it have been less than graceful.

The cooler that is in the side pod is just a 25 row oil cooler and I am having mounting brackets installed in each side pod for them in case I decide to run an engine oil or transmission cooler down the road. The heat exchangers for the supercharger will be mounted in front of them.

We changed the dash bar to match the shape of the hood and to try to raise up the steering column/shaft to give me alittle more room by the pedals.

Added a harness bar. The bar already there is too low to safely wrap the shoulder straps onto.

I think the total bill is going to be ~$2,500 for the modifications to the chassis that they made and it is going to be at least another $1,000 for the new fuel cell, heat exchanger tank, and coolant over-flow tank. The fuel cell and tanks won't be started until I get the chassis back.

I definitely hear you on the level of grace required even in the city frame. It's not bad if you can remove the steering wheel and step on your seats (since you have Kirkey's - as do I) but when you add the covers / padding that idea gets thrown out the window.

Excited to see how the side scoops come together, they're aggressive!

Mind telling how far above the original bars you added those? Wondering if I should consider this and if the same height would be suitable for the corbeaus (which I do not possess yet).

Looking good!

I do plan on running the covers on the Kirkeys and a quick release hub on the steering wheel. I also had an extra square piece of tubing added to the floor to stand on. Since we are remounting the steering column I want to try to push it forward as far as I can and then space the steering wheel into a comfortable position. Like what Fasterproms(YouTube) did with their S-10 build.

I don't have a measurement on hand, but I'll try to remember to measure it when I get the chassis back. But judging by the picture I took I am going to estimate the new bar is ~5" higher from the top of the old to bottom of the new. Honestly you should get the seats and mock them up to see for sure. DF's hardware with the Corbeau could have them at a different height than mine. I am not using DF's seat brackets and Kirkeys are pretty low seats. Too low of a mounting point for the shoulder straps and they can injure your back in a crash. Too high of a mounting point and they will not secure you properly.

I do not know how I would get in and out without the bars in the center of my windshield frame and rear hoop.

Bad news. I lost my job yesterday. I have enough saved to be ok for a few months, but that means all frivolous spending has to stop. I am going to pay what I owe to the fab shop and bring the Goblin home. Anything after that is unknown. As of now I am not planning on selling off my kit or parts. Powder coat is the tipping point to where progress was really going to speed up and I was almost there.

Any thoughts on Steel-it brand spray paint? I have seen a few of the professional drifters I follow use it on their racecars and they only had nice things to say about it.
