V1 Toxik's Track Goblin - '06 SS/SC Donor # 351

T
My background was originally in collision repair before I returned to college and started working in data. I haven't had a project to work on in almost 10 years and have been wanted to get a project car. I saw a video on Donut Media about kit cars and found the DF Goblin. Since then I have been watching the forums and have been keeping my eye out for a donor. In May, I purchased an '06 SS/SC that wasn't running (against some of the advise on the forums XD).

I have since gotten to to run, cleared out the garage, and I am just starting to tear into it. So far I have only really removed the body panels.

I haven't purchased my kit yet. My current plan is to tear down the Cobalt, clear the garage for the wiring harness and order at that time. I hope the wiring harness doesn't take me the whole time the kit is being built and I plan to use the rest to clean up and paint the donor pieces.

One of the major reasons I decided to go with a Goblin was this community. Everyone is very polite and helpful. I look forward to getting to know more of you through this process.

I'm still finding mods. So far below is what the seller listed and/or I have found.

2.8 in. pulley
dual pass end-plate
3" cold air intake
LS4 throttle body
solid engine mounts
WOT box
60# injectors
silicone hoses
long tube headers
3" exhaust
S3 heat exchanger
coilovers

Welcome,
What kind of aftermarket goodies does the donor have?
Looks like weight reduction mods at the very least. Missing mirror cap, hole in the lower body, some missing paint.... Adds about 10 hp I think with that zzp sticker as well ;)

Welcome to the community, @ToxikFlame. A lot of us chose the Goblin over other kits because of this community and also the active manufacturer support that Lonny and Adam provide (as well as the lovely ladies at DF!). Feel free to post up any questions or concerns you may have. Usually best to post directly to this build log with them, also wouldn't hurt to add a link to your signature to this build log in case you pose a question in another thread

I see on the parts list, the front rotor and calipers are required for non-SS models based on the detailed parts list. Does that mean I can sell these? I have someone asking for them.

Welcome. The community was also one of the reasons I went with the Goblin. Yes sell them. You can get good money for them. I got $400

Is the long header from ZZP usable in anyway? I suspect it won't bolt up to the kit exhaust. If I'm going to have a custom exhaust built, should I start with the long headers or get a factory header?

I haven't tried the injectors yet. Replacing the fuel pump got the engine running and I uncovered a fuse that keeps popping. As I started the tear down, I have uncovered many wiring... anomalies... This could be a very interesting wiring harness re-work. I did receive them and appreciate you sending me them to test. If you want/need them back, let me know.

More progress being made. Engine dropped and interior getting there. So far, only issue I have run into is missing tools and one breaking tools... One of the strut to knuckle bolts simply beat me. I broke 2 ratchets and a breaker bar before removing them assembled. I will run it to a local shop this week to have them deal with it.

I did discover a "sealed" crack in the oil pan that I'm going to replace before it goes in the goblin.

I'm working on compiling a list of all of the things I should maintenance/inspect while everything is torn apart and would love to hear from you guys. What came up and you were either glad you checked or something you wish you had done before assembly?

And she's outa here. The Cobalt has been taken apart and shipped off. It feels good to tick that box, but the list of things I have to work on just got a lot longer now that I have some more space in the garage. Time to start rebuilding the harness and tearing into the motor.
