Warning Rant: HP Tuners Disabled 2 of my PCMs

devianteng
Thanks would be good to find out. Hp tuners told me a tech2 device could probably put it back to stock as well. Just im in Barbados so no one here uses them mostly import stuff so I would need to ship them out either way.

I'll PM you his contact and you can at least chat with him and see if he can help you out.

So HP Tuners just verified it is a problem with the new 3 module.... so does anyone have a 2 they are willing to sell / temporarily rent with core charge?
Thanks again guys.

Did they indicate that the "2" would "unbrick" it? If it is no longer a functioning ECM, a rewrite with HPT usually won't fix it, although there are times that "write entire" can. Or is your ECM not truly "bricked"? Can you get a read off of them currently?

No it won;t I have to get a new PCM, have two on the way. But it gets better, I just called back ZZP and they told me they have been using the 3 to write since it came out and all of their LSJ PCMs including the very same one that was sent to me was written with a 3 with the new software. Sigh so back to square one with two opposing ideas.

Was going to share this earlier, but wanted to clean up the list first. I have several older versions of VCM Suite/HPTuner if anyone is interested. I'm not yet convinced on the new v5, and I'm sticking with 4.6.3 (with my MPVI2) for now.

Haha I have that same file downloaded a few days ago thats how I know the V3 module doesnt work with the older software versions

Correct me if I'm wrong, but there's no need to update my VCM Editor software, correct? It's not like they would've added LSJ features between v4.5 and v4.6, right?

Doubtful they have any particular features for the LSJ, like the LNF it's pretty much been the same for years. They may have added a few features to the scanner, like being able to mark points in the scan file while logging (not sure what version that happened) but in general you are more likely to lose features than gain. How far back does v4.5 go?

Skimming through your thread here but have you possibly checked you obd port? I had a very similar issue with the writing process failing at various random times. In my case a few pins in the obd port were bent to a point of causing intermittent connections

Yeah one of thr first thngs I checked

gotcha, other thing i thought about. On the lsj the ecm has a direct wire to the obd that is green. I accidentally added that wire to the green splice pack while redoing the harness which also cause the intermittent hptuners write

I had locked up my ECM a couple of times with HP Tuners. This was when the MVPI2 came out. I was thinking it was something with the new version. Even sent it back to HP Tuners and they sent me a new one with new firmware. Seemed to work a bit better, but it was still a crap shoot if it would actually write properly. THEN I FOUND THE PROBLEM. I had hard-wired a AeroForce OBDII gauge to the OBDII lines and it was interfering with the communication. Make sure you don't have something else on the line at the same time.

Now I have a small switch where I can disable the connection of the gauge while writing to the ECM.

Since then, not once have I had a problem and I have wrote to it almost a 100 times now. Good luck.

Oh, there is a way to pull the ECM and put it on a bench and use HP Tuners to write to it. It takes everything out of the loop. I have read a few random ECMs this way just for fun. You would have to do the research on the pins to connect, only a few.

Thanks. Yeah I’ve literally disconnected every single thing in the vehicle that I don’t actually need to write, unplugged physical wires and pulled fuses. I have a bench harness on the way so that should take care of any issues like that if there are any.
