Warning Rant: HP Tuners Disabled 2 of my PCMs

G
I don’t remember anyone with V1 or V2 that had problems on a cobalt that could be completely traced to HPT and I’ve read just about every post on HPT concerning the LNF. A few post discussing “bricked” ECM s but usually people that only have a post or two and never post again.

Well according to HP tuners the issue is the 3 with the cobalt. But I honestly have 0 trust in what they are saying if I am to believe literally everyone else using them
HPT biggest problem is their lack of communication with problems or explaining why they can’t do something. I don’t know if they are afraid of giving away trade secrets or admitting fault but their answer is always they are working on it and no eta. I think they would be better off to explain why they are having a problem. Trying to make this work across the very large number of platforms t try hey support can’t be easy.

I’m fully expecting this to be an issue on the car or something else but my issue is they are the ones saying it’s on their end and it was intentional. How could you sell a product claiming to support a vehicle then after someone purchases it and damages their property trying to use it then tell them oh we intentionally blocked the use of it and aren’t even willing to refund the credits used in the process. Not to mention they can’t even give a ball park as to when they expect to get the issue resolved

Just another update, after being told in my Support ticket by Eric @ HP Tuners...

'Hey Christopher, I've looked over the info and have had a conversation with the engineers and at present this vehicle has been disabled from tuning, the engineers are working quickly to fix the issues at hand but unfortunately I do not have an eta on when this will be supported again I'm sorry.'

My post in the HP Tuners forum online about my issues was locked today after Bill @ Hp Tuners stated 'We have NOT intentionally disabled anyones ecm. If you are having an issue we recommend open up a support ticket which can be done here https://support.hptuners.com'

So clearly they don't know their tail from their head and are basically saying you can't believe anything we say because at this point they are contradicting one another.

I brought this exact same conflicting perspective to their attention in another post since they locked the first one and it was deleted after a few hours with no response. I guess they don't like being exposed and instead of actually God forbid dealing with the issue and trying to help a customer it's easier just to delete the post.

I opened another post in the Forum to try and get resolution but I'm fully expecting it to be deleted as well...
Throughout this issue I have not been nasty to anyone or made any negative statements simply quoting them and stating my problems.

I’m not sure that disabled from tuning is necessarily the same as disabling the ECM.
I don’t agree with how defensive HPT can be sometime, but they will get it straightened out.

The post before he made the disabled ECM statement was from another poster....

'Same issue here, tried tuning my 2007 Cobalt SS/SC today. Same errors, tried most the same stuff, just to figure out they disabled it? But didn't tell anyone? Kind of infuriating...'

In any case if you disabled my ability to write a tune to my ECM and you did not 1) inform me before purchase. 2)Allowed me to apply credits to the 'disabled' ECM not once but twice, and 3)Make the software tell me that it was disabled before erasing the file on the PCM but instead know that your method of disabling it will likely cause it to be rendered unusable then as far as I am concerned disabling in this context is the same as the outcome is the same - I have a useless PCM.

I have 0 expectation that they will get it actually straightened out because it has been more than 8 days since I have heard anything official from them. They couldn't tell me when it was disabled, why it was disabled or even approximately when or even IF they will be getting it fixed. Totally unacceptable service. The only acceptable reply to this situation is a proper apology for allowing the ECU to be sold by a reseller specifically listing it for a vehicle you know you disabled and a full refund even if not for the module at least for the wasted credits.

If when I attempted to write the file I got a message along the lines of 'This PCM has been disabled temporarily from accepting write commands, please contact support' then I would have been far less upset because I would still be able to drive my vehicle, have $200 left in credits and 2 fully functional PCMs instead of losing everything. Again totally unacceptable by any measure.

Can anyone else get HP tuners to connect to their car ATM? I have an MPVI2+ and now cannot even get it to read the vehicle. Wondering if these two situations are related as I was using hp tuners within the last week perfectly fine

Mine was reading fine so I doubt related but who knows. My last post was also locked but at least Bill said he would have a tech reach out to me on Monday with some options so we will see where that goes.

Have you re-synced your device or updated the editor in that time? If not, I’m not sure if there is anyway that it’s a related problem. If you did update it’s possible.

I haven’t manually updated anything unless it does it automatically. I can plug in my obd2 scanner and it works just fine so assuming it’s HPT related

Anyone with an LSJ written to their PCM via HP Tuners in the last 2 weeks? If anyone gets it done please let me know if you were successful. Thanks

SO update to my ongoing money pit and frustration. I ordered a full bench harness and power module kit to eliminate the vehicle/wiring being the problem. No joy. Same exact issue. Even tried licensing a different map from HP Tuners repository to see and convince myself I have exhausted all options and same problem. So either I have a defective module and there is no way for me to know that without purchasing another (fat chance of HP Tuners getting any more of my money after this) or they have indeed genuinely disabled these ECUS from being written to. So now I basically source a stock ECU, strip all my upgrade parts and no I can never be more than stock HP on this engine. Extremely frustrating and disappointing as being able to pick at and upgrade is one of the joys of owning one of these, at least for me. Not to mentioned the thousands of dollars wasted at this point.

On a related note anyone know a way to run full management without having to disable the Power steering? I think every other BCM function I can run direct, lights, indicators etc. I already have bypassed the ECU ignition with my own independent direct push button and of course we dont care about this like interior lights, wipers, A/C etc. Was trying to see if anyone with a Cobalt ever ran standalone management but couldnt really find any since they are normally so easy to reflash.

Trying to think outside the box…you now have two ECUs, correct? There are a few forum members that have had success with HPT. Would it be worth the effort to see if someone would be willing to try and write to one of yours if you sent it to them? That should verify if it is indeed locked. Or you could try a vendor for programming like ZZP but I think that can get expensive quickly. Or you could get really out of the box and see if someone with the older HPT version would travel to you. Many areas are getting into “Park the Goblin” weather and a trip to Barbados could get the wife to agree to a winter vacation.

I think you can do that Saturn Vue EPS thing. Basically the Vue EPS is bolt in, and there are aftermarket controllers that are adjustable off of speed (via included GPS module). Might be worth looking into if you want to try standalone.
