First car show and had a lot of interest about the Goblin. Questions galore, people sitting in it and remarking about how much room it has inside despite how small it actually is. Maybe even had one or two interested enough to dig a little more into the Goblin info and considering a possible build (The crowd is mostly engineers and rocket building technicians). Had a good time explaining my experiences and reasons for certain modifications. Overall it was worth putting 50 miles on my Goblin (on the trailer). :D

Working on my semi-custom shifter. It started life as an Acura RSX 6 speed shifter, but will be mounted backwards to have the cables come off the back of the shifter assembly rather than forward. The cable connection points are above the pivot points of the lever, like the new DF shifter, to have a direct linkage to the transmission without the extra 'motion reverse' linkage needed on the donor or group-buy shifters.

I had to cut down the baseplate to fit in the limited space between the seat mounts and my lower dash down tubes. Allows the seats to be adjusted without hitting any part of the shifter.

I also fabbed up a small shifter boot to seal up the internal mechanism from dirt and any incidental water.

Now my new custom shifter fits nicely and has plenty of room to still allow the seats to be adjusted. :D

Been working on modifying the nose for better airflow through the radiator. I've added side baffles to keep the incoming air from going around the sides of the radiator to force it all into the radiator - or upward into the intake scoop for my underhood air plenum for cockpit cooling.

Also worked on reshaping the nose to make its shape more to my liking.

And recontoured the back edge of the hood so it can match up with my dash panel and the A-pillar.

I added a pair of DRLs so I can be seen. These are 30 watts (each) bi-color LED projector lights - white for daytime and yellow for nighttime. There is a change of angle between the light color, so the white can be aimed upward for visual attention and aimed downward for yellow to not blind oncoming vehicles at night.

Jeep maintenance day. Lube, rotate tires, and a bath...gets it every six to eight months. Just turned over 147,000 miles and is 21 years old now. Longest I've ever owned a vehicle now, but not close to highest mileage I've put on a vehicle (249,000 miles on a 1980 Mazda pickup in 18 years).

Time is coming to do a refresh to replace/rebuild the mechanicals with new seals, bearings, and gears (as needed), worn suspension bushings, and u-joints. Plus I have a 4.7 liter stroker motor to install, big bump in the fun factor. :p

Keep it squatchy!

@Ross stopped by yesterday on his way to Yuma. We spent a few hours talking about all things Goblin and going over the crazy things I've done to my build. It was good to pick his brain for the real world experience he has with his Goblin and the things he has done to correct some of the inherent flaws and shortcomings that go with building a kit car. I really appreciated his visit, that he took the time to sidetrack on his journey. Safe travels Ross!

There are a whole lot more builders I would love to have similar discussions with. We can learn so much from each other, way more when we can talk face to face than bouncing posts back and forth. :D

I'm putting an open invitation out to anyone who is traveling to or thru Phoenix - and you have the time - to stop by if you would like. We can talk Goblins, general car building, aviation, rockets, or any other mutual topic that interests you. Might even fire up the smoker with enough advanced notice (and enough consecutive time to tend the fire ;)).
