I just purchased a Quaife LSD today for less than $950 new from WG Motorparts in the UK. I was communicating with Tom and he worked a deal with me thru eBay. BTW, I put together a new F40 ($750) and clutch/flywheel kit new ($220) and Quaife new ($940) for less then $2K - all delivered. F35 trans new are impossible to find and a performance rebuilt F35 is more than what I paid for my F40. I believe that no amount of abuse or streetable engine HP you could throw at the F40 installed in the Goblin will ever hurt it. If you have the budget, the new F40 is the way to go in my opinion.
The f35 I just pulled out didn’t miss a beat doing full WOT shifts at 30psi making 500hp in the goblin

Good to hear that the f35 is tough enough, but if you have the money, and want to put a 6 speed f40 into a Goblin, go for it. I appreciate the effort, and the sharing of the info, and being able to dream of the things we can do with our toys!

No argument the F35 is a great transmission and will likely not fail in a 1600lb car running at reasonably healthy HP. But when you don't have a transmission in the first place and have been checking on used (and abused) and rebuilt F35s, the $2K I just spent is not necessarily anymore $ than a person would spend on the F35. In your opinion, it is a waste of money. In my opinion, which I emphatically stated, it is money well spent. Each Goblin build is unique, that is the magic of building your own car, and mine will have a F40 LSD transmission. Good luck with completing your F35 swap and getting your car ready for race season, it will be interesting to see how it turns out.

Since you’re probably running the highest horsepower goblin ever I have a few questions for you. Well just one for now: are you running stock fuel pump? I’ve gone through the Ecotec build guide getting each of the items it recommends to upgrade for the 400HP level. The only things I don’t yet have are valves and the fuel pump.

I agree with you there, i wouldnt mind having a lsd f40. Every build is different and built for certain things for sure. wasnt trying to come off as a dick hahah

No sir, im running a Walbro 300 fuel pump. I actually have a spare that i wouldnt mind getting rid of as well. Theyre good for 650whp all day. although you do have to trim the bottom of the canister to get it to fit. not hard at all

Justin and DFG builders,

I am passing along some information: WG Motorparts - the place I purchased my F40 LSD from - will have several new F40 Quaife LSDs available in late April/early May. If you are interested, go to their website and contact Tom, let him know that Tim Marks recommended this contact. He can help arrange a better deal on the LSD than buying direct from Quaife. Please feel free to contact me if any additional information is needed.

Justin, no problem, it's all good.

One thing I didn’t think of is you’re probably running E85 right? So I guess pretty much all the fuel system would have to be upgraded.

One other question, what do you do for boost referenced fuel pressures? My system is set up
to supply 50psi to the rail at all times, and it’s worked great at the very low turbo pressures I currently run (9psi maximum). The new engine will run a dual stage boost controller, approximately 12psi on low and 20psi on high. I have 60lb injectors. I’m thinking of getting the AEM 50-100, think the walbro is better?

Yeah I run e85 with the ottp boost reference fuel pressure system. It connects to the end of the fuel rail and returns fuel back to the fuel canister. The Walbro is better quality. I went thru two aem pumps with a year and a half. This walbro has lasted 3 years. (I took it out of my ion when I was building the goblin) if you’re on e85 you’ll definitely need more than 60lb injectors, even if you’re just on 93, 80s are still the better choice. Makes the injectors not work as hard

So you took the 541 whp engine out of the Saturn to put in your Goblin? o_O

I was doing the Count from Sesame Street on the engines; One ah,ah,ah....Two ah, ah, ah....Threddddeeee ah, ah, ah,!!!

Big dogs and big engines.
Yep! Except this one can handle 600whp I’ll never have it turned up that high tho, I don’t think the chassis can handle that much power

Whats the secret to running an aftermarket tach? I've read a bunch online about how difficult it is to pickup a good tach signal on these cars. Been thinking a lot about getting rid of the cobalt instrument panel. But to replace it with the autogauge setup I want is like $900!

I’m not sure yet, I haven’t tied the signal wire in yet but if there’s not a good enough signal at the cluster harness I’ll just run a wire straight to the coils

There’s not a signal at the instrument panel. It’s just GMLAN, speedo and tach and all the other data get sent in on the same one or two wires and then the instrument cluster sorts it all out and displays it kinda like an OBD2 reader.

Good info right there, sounds like I’m taping into the coil wires then lol

Well underway with upgrades for this race season. New gauges, steering wheel, trap door oil pan, accusump, s257 turbo, fresh engine with a race ported head, stage 3 cams, lsd transmission, and some 275 and 295 race slicks!
What size are those jegs star wheels? Same backspacing?
