I doubt they offer powder coating for v2. They stopped offering powder coating on v1 just after your first purchase. Thanks, I’ll have to see what colors are available for the v2. There’s no reasonable powder coating option near me.
Sadly I can take you to a bone yard that is nothing but diesel vw. They did not destroy them. They keep a crew on that starts each car once per month and they move it to another section of the storage lot. If the car does not start has to be taken by tow truck to a vw dealer fix then hauled back. Only a select few every year are destroyed. How do I know this I hauled them to the dealer then hauled them back. I was not allowed to start the car could only winch on and off the truck. They were the center of the dieselgate scandal, so VW bought back and destroyed most of them. Although there's still a few around that would probably work.
Interesting. I can't see VW reselling them in North America, but the world is full of places that aren't so testy about emissions and NEW models. Thank you for taking time to chase that answer down. It seemed quite the curiosity!I don't think it's the government telling vw to save them... If I had to guess in the midst of all of the huge charges brought against them, it was cheaper to store the cars than to dispose of them in the short term, and if the requirement was only to buy them back, it seems like the obvious answer.
From 2018:
"These vehicles are being stored on an interim basis and routinely maintained in a manner to ensure their long-term operability and quality, so that they may be returned to commerce or exported once U.S. regulators approve appropriate emissions modifications," VW spokeswoman Jeannine Ginivan said in a statement to Reuters about the Victorville facility.
