Sneak Peek - Goblin V2

Before building v1 I had no mechanical experience whatsoever. It was a great experience building it and the community here is super helpful when you need help. I’m not concerned at all with an early frame number. It’s going to be a great time building it!

Thanks, I’ll have to see what colors are available for the v2. There’s no reasonable powder coating option near me.
I doubt they offer powder coating for v2. They stopped offering powder coating on v1 just after your first purchase.

Verbiage from their release in this thread is below. It looks like they intend to offer some basic colors, color of choice (at additional cost) or bare frame.

"All Goblin V2 platforms will be factory-assembled with standard powder coat colors (TBD).
or with the customer's color choice (additional handling cost)
or for those that would like to weld to or make custom changes to their kit, we will ship it fully assembled and bare. (remove powder coating cost)"

Cool. I didn’t look that closely. I know it was a hassle for them last time due to frames being damaged during transport.

I've seen a few mention it, but haven't seen much discussion. VW did have a mk7 2015 TDI Diesel. Would that theoretically work in this chassis? They only came in manual and DSG.

They were the center of the dieselgate scandal, so VW bought back and destroyed most of them. Although there's still a few around that would probably work.

I had a 2014 TDI (red 'I') Golf with 6 speed, ARP stage II chipped with intake, downpipe, and intercooler. I loved to tell that Mustang GT in the next lane he just got smoked by a diesel! Most fun I've had with a sleeper until it was recalled and I was bought out by VW.

Sadly I can take you to a bone yard that is nothing but diesel vw. They did not destroy them. They keep a crew on that starts each car once per month and they move it to another section of the storage lot. If the car does not start has to be taken by tow truck to a vw dealer fix then hauled back. Only a select few every year are destroyed. How do I know this I hauled them to the dealer then hauled them back. I was not allowed to start the car could only winch on and off the truck.

Making VW(If not the Fed Gov?) hold and start them once a month? Who knew the EPA was in the penance biz?{Il Popa say: VW must pray seven more daily Hail Mary's and one Rosary every Saturday until further notice!} VW made illegal cars, why don't they just scrap them? Are the cars evidence? My guess: someone is being PAID to maintain some of them, for the better part of a decade. BUT WHY??, to show the US population how "really super double secret illegal" VW's actions were? What could this exercise possibly prove? Maybe saving a portion of the illegal cars adds to their illegality? I am not suggesting this report of "a hidden herd" is false; I am just curious what it would prove?, nobody is driving them, so those individual units are not polluting with Exhaust gasses! (Gov does some dumb butt things, is this just another one of those $$Money Pits$$?)
If our GOV wants to hand me half(and scrape the other half off to some un-named "politician".) of any amount of money to waste I CANNOT promise I will actually waste it! Likely I'd spend the majority on Junk Cars, Loose Women and Party'n. The other 10% I promise to waste!;)

I don't think it's the government telling vw to save them... If I had to guess in the midst of all of the huge charges brought against them, it was cheaper to store the cars than to dispose of them in the short term, and if the requirement was only to buy them back, it seems like the obvious answer.

From 2018:
"These vehicles are being stored on an interim basis and routinely maintained in a manner to ensure their long-term operability and quality, so that they may be returned to commerce or exported once U.S. regulators approve appropriate emissions modifications," VW spokeswoman Jeannine Ginivan said in a statement to Reuters about the Victorville facility.

Interesting. I can't see VW reselling them in North America, but the world is full of places that aren't so testy about emissions and NEW models. Thank you for taking time to chase that answer down. It seemed quite the curiosity!
