V1 Brett W’s City Goblin – 09 SS Donor #229 v2.0 - Registered

how did you get screws and rivnuts on the bottom edge of the side panels without drilling into the coolant hoses? looks really nice btw
My coolant hoses run through my center tunnel in aluminum tubing. I had DF seal the frame tubes off when they welded the frame together.

Due to limited space in the tunnel with the coolant tubes there, my heat exchanger is mounted in the engine compartment.

Honestly, probably more effort than it was worth. If I ever do this a 3rd time, I would probably just pull the hoses through the frame.

2 things, both related.

first, I saw Brett is going to the auto cross Sunday!
second, Jason why aren’t you going?
Yep, ill be there. Hopefully there arnt in Intrepid coming.

Jason has family business to take care of and wont make it but he is definitely helping out by loaning me (and Russel) his trailer.

Oh, one thing I forgot. I need to get my brake lights working properly. They are on when I start the car and the brake pedal isnt pushed down. Push the pedal down and the lights go off then on.

Rotty tried to calibrate with a tech2 and it didn't work. Neighbor had his 3rd party tool and it didn't work either.

I think I am going to replace the switch and see if it will calibrate. Any other pointers / thoughts would be appreciated.

This is really the only item holding me up from moving forward with registration.

Are your driving lights coming on instantly in the dark garage? Maybe check your 3rd brake light wires stop and running.

?

Changed out my 3rd brake light. While the previous one worked, I just wasn't happy with it. Used an LED brake light and got some brackets from speedway (or was that summit) that worked well.

Ha! I just changed my brake like mounting Yesterday as well. I like yours better. Looks like you are ready to start the paperwork game.

I had the same issue with my brake lights. Turns out it is the sensor on the brake pedal is torqued down too much. Back off the screws a touch just to allow a little bit of wiggle. This relaxes the sensor to read not being engaged. The tension in the plastic keeps the screws from backing out.

Funny, looks like the clear version of the one I got.

Here are the clamps I used:

Paperwork is starting. Todays goal is to get insurance taken care of.
Yeah, I didn't want an obnoxious red light at the top, detracting from my frame. ;)

I got my insurance through my State Farm agent. Paying a lot but no restrictions on use and was happy for a yes and can bargain shop later.

I also have a ASE master tech in my neighborhood if you need as well.

Ill reach out on the ASE Master when then time come. Appreciate the connection.

I am excited to see you going for it Sunday! Knowing my luck, I will be your grid and get to see your face between runs to know if building 2 goblins was worth it

I can already say it was worth it. I'm still grinning after driving 20 miles around Russell's area.

Cant wait to do whatever the next iteration from DF will be.

With some of the bad roads here, “shake down” is a good term. It sure does help shake things loose, though. It drives very well. Seems pretty stable and planted.

Autocross will be fun. Should be a nice day if the rain holds off.

Had a great time at autocross. See the following link for details:

Russell and another buddy of mine came out. It was like I had a pit crew. I would get out of the car and Russell was already checking tire pressures. Big thank you for helping out a novice at autocross.

Car stuff:

Apparently, I didn't have the fuel sender cinched down tight enough and had a small fuel leak. That has been tightened down and should be good to go now.

Need to adjust the parking break.

Secure a few wires a little better.

Overall, the car held up and handled well.

Only item holding me back on moving forward with registration is resolving the issue with the brake lights. Have a new parking brake light switch arriving this week and hope to put a little time in on it before spring break.

Once that is done, focus will be on registration.

I have insurance now through American Collectors Insurance.

I tried Hagerty but they do not have an insurance plan to cover Goblins on the street in Texas, and they have no plans currently to change. I could have gone through a third party that would be underwritten by Hagerty but it just wasn't worth it. Hagerty is willing to cover it for sanctioned racing so that might come in handy in the future. Who knows.
