OBD2 tachometer 0-9000 RPM, will fit perfectly directly above the steering column (along with the other 2 most important gauges - oil pressure and boost).

Also decided the cheap (really cheap) ebay seats already have gotta go - they are coming apart and I don't even have them installed yet! Replaced with 18 inch Jegs aluminum with their padded cover - nice tweed fabric. Fits my Squatch butt snugly, a little tight in the midsection, but some judicious tweaking will make some more room.

Forgot to mention - aluminum seat with cover and mounts = 17.5bs (2X =35lbs). Cheap ebay seat with sliding mount = 33.5lbs (2X = 67lbs). Weight savings of nearly one entire seat - 32lbs. It all adds up!

Been a while since my last update. I'm back with the working world again, another aerospace engineering job working on space launch vehicles. Yes, it is rocket science.

Build progress wise, I'm waiting on a response from a company to get the driver's side axle shortened and resplined for the F40. Hopefully will hear something this coming week.

Also trying to contact B3 Design in Omaha about purchasing a F40 LSD installation kit - they are on Facespace and I'm not - no email response yet. I'm trying to locate a phone number, no luck yet, but did get in touch with B3 DesignS in Omaha that is an interior designer. (Face palm)

Tinkering this morning, I fabbed up the final design for my wing mounts (yeah, they do have speedholes). They are just a wee bit shorter than most everyone else's (except @Ross).View attachment 40384View attachment 40385

The flat roof panel will help with the efficiency of the wing, getting clean and slightly compressed airflow directed across the bottom of the wing. I'll be employing an aero trick on the wing to increase downforce (bet some of you already know what it will be). I also plan on doing something a little different with this wing that will help with handling, stay tuned.

(wanted to post something that doesn't have anything to do with wiring and increase @Gtstorey frustration level! )

1/2 inch Gurney flap on the trailing edge of the roof wing. May seem tall, but the majority of the time a Goblin operates below 75ish MPH and the Gurney flap is meant for operation above 150ish MPH. And those are Clecos holding it in place for alignment - temporary before it will riveted in place.

For those not knowledgeable of aerodynamics, the flap increases the high pressure 'bubble' on the top of the wing and creates a larger low pressure area at the back edge of the wing to pull air across the bottom to increase downforce (simplest explanation). Seems almost too simple, but it is proven to increase wing downforce by 25% or more, so my 'little' 48 inch wing is essentially the same as 60 inch wing without a Gurney flap - at speed. Aerodynamics lesson over.

Work (ramping up with lots of extra hours now) and family obligations have been eating away at my garage time...I'm not complaining as my wife and I have been spending lots of quality time with our grandkids (cutest grandkids ever!).

So progress on my build has slowed to a snail's crawl, but I finally got into the garage today. Got the 'generic' seat rails for my new aluminum seats modded to my liking - and dropped 1 1/4 lbs from the set with some trimming and speedholes!

Then got the driver's seat mocked up into position in the cockpit. The angle is good and they are a pretty snug fit in there, but they are sasquatch sized seats. Thinking I may want to raise them about 1-1 1/2 inches, they are really low - much lower than the cheap ebay seats I was originally planning to use.

I'm hoping the rest of this weekend will not be as crazy as the last 4 weekends, so I can get some more Goblin work done. I feel like I've not done anything worthwhile for too long.

Yeah, most of the rust that exists on my frame results from sweaty hand prints that oxidize the next time the humidity gets above 50ish percent - about a dozen time per year.

We're in dry summer now (we have 5 seasons in the desert) where we have at least 2 months - May, June - where the humidity is typically 8 to 12 percent. During monsoon - our wet summer July, August - the humidity gets to 50 percent and more, but comes along with 110-115 degrees and higher (120 degrees and 50 percent humidity is brutal). Wet summer is our hibernation season when working in the garage slows down and a Goblin typically sits in the garage waiting for more amiable weather - when it gets back to the 100s and less humid in September. Yeah, we put up with about 3 months of hibernation (much of it in the swimming pool) for about 9 months of good weather the rest of the year. It's tough.

Success! Got both seats fitted with them sitting 1 1/4 inch higher than the first try. Perfect height for me and leaves just enough headspace to wear a helmet with (almost) no rubbing on the roof panel.

Racer X stopped by this afternoon while I was playing with the hood and windshield and decided to lighten up the windshield mount a bit with a few speedholes. Lost another 1/2 pound plus in weight. Remember 'the lightest thing in the world is a hole' - Racer X quote.
