Engine swaps

My brother-in-law is looking at a Goblin to build. He posed a question that I couldn't answer and can't seem to find the info searching the forums.

He asked me "if I buy a NA manual donor, can I swap a supercharged 2.0 into it later?"

Seems like a valid question. Which I told him to just boost the NA one instead of going through the pains of what may need to be done. Does anyone have info on what would need to be changed (harness, mounts, etc) if he decided to embark on this route?

No. Computers and wiring would be different. You would basically need a new harness, bcm, ecu, and maybe more. You can just supercharge the 2.2L though. If you need/want more there are forged internals you can buy. That's what I've done for my 2.2L. I'm making 330whp on 16psi right now.

Physically, yes. All the frames are basically the same. Trans mounts may be different though.

Just pop one out and the other in, not exactly like Jirwin said. You’ll also have to replace all the computers to “talk” properly, and even the harnesses are different to do so, which means you’ll basically be replacing “everything” and somewhat starting over.

I would find the correct doner you want and only build once.

Yeah @Rttoys is right regarding engine components. Minus cams and cranks (mostly because of reluctor differences) these things are like Legos. I technically have a 2.2L bottom end, 2.4 head, 2.0 TC exhaust (ie turbo), and 2.0 SC intake manifold in my build. There are minor difference, but it mostly just all bolts together.

I guess I said that wrong. My goblin is not for sale, but I have a cobalt ss that is. It was going to be extra parts for the goblin, but I haven’t done anything with it in a couple of years, so might as well let it go, if someone needs it. I know they are getting hard to find.
