So got the new PSI maker bolted on. Went fairly easy since it is hanging on the back of the engine. The old turbo spool had some play in it and I believe was the cause of my smoky exhaust. The other Houston Goblin Guys were giving me a hard time following me on the track - while faking a cough, cough...
Found the typical crack in the exhaust manifold. Oh well.
Always a little concern when you fire it up after work like this and see the oil film on the turbo burning off. Smoke from the engine bay is a little worrisome even when you are expecting it. No leaks of oil, water, or exhaust so far though.
Maybe it is just me, but the new turbo seems to spool a little faster. Sounds slightly different too. It is just a new K04. 300 hp is enough for me right now. If anyone is interested, it was only a hundred or so more than having the old one re-built.

I changed the oil as well. 2,999 miles after the first one.

85,667 on the odometer.
Gonna do a can of CRC intake/valve cleaner next as well. Direct injection engines could use an internal cleaning every now and then.
I am scheduled for a rookie driving school in two weeks with my son in lieu of that weekend's autoX (even though we have done 20 or so autoX). Something different. More actual track time. We shall see if it was the right decision.
