V1 JCas Tacoma Wa city easy entry 07 LS #188 "REGISTERED"

Jcas
Oh! Almost forgot- if that's an '04 Redline, it doesn't have an LSD. They only offered the competition package (with gray wheels, boost gauge and LSD) from 2005 on.
I do believe how ever that it is a bit higher geared than my current trans which if so would make the freeway a bit more enjoyable as 3200 rpm for 75 mph gets on your ears after awhile. Along with that I think I have a problem with second and a bit more noise coming from the gear box than when I first started driving the car. Maybe I should not be so hard on second.

Rauq
A 4.05 final drive F35 (LSJ spec) should be 175 RPMs higher at 70mph than a 3.84 final drive F23 (non-XFE N/A Cobalt spec) on a 25" tall tire. What size tires are you running?

Looking at Rockauto the do show NON Abs hubs for front and rear
All year Redlines had ABS, some of the base model Ions had rear drums and no ABS. None of them had traction control. That sensor on the intermediate shaft is the speed sensor, and was only on the '04 models. You will need a dealership or someone with HPTuners to change the speed sensor setting in the ECU.

(EDIT: If you just want to swap in the drivetrain from the Ion, that's doable, but probably more work than you'd like)

I am just concerned about the tranns I have currently in the car seems more slop in the drive train and more noise like a bearing going south.

So Guess what. I get to build another Goblin. Not sure if we want to jump up for joy or .... The first was fun but we had our little problems but we sure have enjoyed every second of the drives. Now the Nest builder wants one of her own. So I have brought home another 2007 LS in a automatic. As we progress with that one I will keep you all up to speed and I think we will just share it here with the first. This one should be more fun as I am going to make the Wife do more and Me less. Which will let me take more pics to post here. So many things I wish I would have shared but I didn't think about it until I was on the other side of the project.

well Guys it finally happened kinda my fault but not. I got ran into the curb close to home in a double left turn lane. messed both wheels on the right side bent the control arms on the passenger side stood the passenger rear tire up so something is not right there either so have decided to replace the rear struts too. considering that the front shock compressed fully and bent the bottom mount on the control arm both the front shocks also will be replaced. The upper control arm nicked the upper bolt of the shock. on the bright side DF has upgraded most of the parts in the front and I now have a reason to do the same to chassis 188. I wanted to do some clean up work in the front because I kind of pushed through that and it need a new touch of color anyway. So here we are again waiting for parts to arrive almost feels like 5 years ago when i was just starting the build. New wheels will start to arrive on Monday and the rear upgraded struts will also be here. not sure which end for the wheels as this time the fronts a 7 wide and the rear are 9. I have been tossing over a new gauge cluster and decided to pull the trigger there as I will have the hood off and tons of room to make changes and access to wiring. As I tear down the car I will send pictures of damage and maybe do a better job of showing my work than the first time. Adam and the DF team are great as we discussed what could be bent or damaged we both agreed that certain parts may not have visible damage and so we have opted to replace.

as for the insurance company as of yesterday I told them I was done with them for further insurance needs. at this point this is all out of my pocket but we live and learn. I will give a better description latter of what happened and you will see where I take the blame but the other car that ran came into my lane and I jabbed the brakes fast used to driving truck with almost 30,000 pounds all day so I was hard on the brake pedal before I realized it I was in the curb.

So now I can now go back into the garage without feeling queasy in the stomach and get a calmer look at things. This time it looks as if I will have a 6 year old chief mechanic. My grandson is so excited as the 1st box showed up today the rest will be here over the next week or two. By the way the age old question when do we fall in love with cars. this boy has been packing cars around since he could crawl. He has so many cars he calls kit cars and it is fun to see that excitement that he gets to help Papa with his. I am looking forward to the memories.

That sucks. I love and hate double turns. In my truck it makes it easier to make the turn properly while pulling a trailer, but there’s always the person in the short lane that wants to swing wide.

but it’s ok. It gives you a reason to teach the grandson some things and start another generation of gearheads.

Oh no! Sorry to hear this happened, but very glad no one got hurt.
Accidents are sometimes opportunities to make improvements and upgrades, when it can be rebuilt. Sounds like you are headed down that road already. ;)
Having the shop boss there to help and learn something along the way will make this rebuild an experience to remember. Take lots of pictures to keep these memories and he can show off what he did with Papa! :D

So as the story goes and you seen in the post and now car on the mend and on jack stands it seems the worst is over.

So I was coming back from the parts store not far from my home. Had oil change in passengers seat for work truck. I came up 2nd in line on the right of a double left turn lane. My lane can either go straight or turn left into double lanes making the far outside right lane mine. The car in front went straight I gave so go to the car as I turned left. I may have been in the other cars blind spit but all the same we do not change lanes in mid turn which they done. Me on the throttle and there lane change put me in a pie shapped place very fast. So I grabbed brakes and of course locked the front up as fast as I did that and thought.... I was in the curb already. My guess would be at about 30ish a glancing blow that had the rear hit the curb in the same spot as the front. Just a reminder the marks are still there and this happened in mid November. To end this they seen me and car and did the unthinkable and ran. Me just not believing what just happened can't even tell you what brand of car it truly was. Explain that to an officer it was white Toyota or Honda 2 door possibly a 4 door. I watched them drive off and never got a plate number. Then we are still fighting with insurance so we are 2500 to 3500 in repairs but also many upgrades can't find my rims now so all new. Well now that we have to buy new LOL ya you guessed it wider in the rear then now tires won't fit LOL you see where this is going. The woulda shoulda coulda now is.

So on the up side we are saying UPGRADE change insurance company and try again.

OUCH! At least everything looks to be replaceable. No bend or twist in the frame or control arm mounts? Bet you are glad you were alone and didn't have your grandson with you - wouldn't want him traumatized and afraid to work on Papa's car. :D

Yes i also am glad I was alone as I had to get out and pick up the oil filter for the work truck as it hit the sidewalk. So far it looks that all damage was to replaceable parts. Also don't forget that this is chassis 188 and most all front pieces thanks to a few others have been redesigned . However I did not see that bend in the lower control until I took it off and the upright was ordered only because we could not guarantee that it was safe to put on the road. The hiem joint also has play. We only guess at possible damage to front shocks and for what ever reason I can not get that one to fully extend but that is okay as we have a new set comming as well

Well that nasty flu bug ran through the house shut me down for the past couple days but here is some of what I have done. Sadly like every thing things have changed. The Advanti Storm wheels I have changed style. So that means I had to buy all 4 new. Please read this the way it is ment to be heard not the way I said it to the wife. "Dang I have to replace all 4 wheels!" Then why do you need wider tires? This was her next question. Good thing we don't have a dog house. But you can see we are now sporting a new set of 245/40ZR 15 Falken Azenis RT660 for the rear and a set of 205/50ZR 15s for the front changed rear struts powder coating old front spring in black for the front shocks. Tons of clean up and repainting. I will do my best to keep you up on what is going on have new tunnel cover and both upper and lower control arms headed to the powder coater on Monday because of bug and weather slow downs.

Okay guys I have searched and searched for the front suspension intall vids and I can not locate them even on YouTube. Really all I need is the torque specs and how many turns out to start with on the Rod end joints. There has been tons of water under this bridge since my build and I just don't remember i know that they where very close when I went into alignment.

If I remember correctly, DF's video said to leave the rod ends out 4 turns, both top and bottom. When I did a quick garage alignment, the bottom A arm was tucked in tight, and the top A arm was about 12 turns out. A digital angle finder is inexpensive.

I have one as that is a needed tool in a wood shop doing epoxy tables and scroll saw pen holders.
I just remember it gave me a great starting place and about an hour of playing pretty much had it. Fine tuning and rechecking more fine tuning should be good to go.

So far almost have the drivers front back together there are different parts so it has been a bit slow but I had not completely disassemble one side so used it as template to install the new parts.

Man that was a blast from the past. It was almost 5 years ago and a house purchase since I have sat and watched a assembly vid with my morning coffee. Thank you I have been searching for that vid for the past couple of weeks. It is however not the same as the first one that I watch as the parts have change but I do however now have to go out and tear the drivers side back apart and reassemble it correctly.

I put some stuff together wrong too, the beauty of tracking progress and posting pics on your build log let other members see and call you out (in a good way) to help you along.

out of curiosity, what is different? Mine was pretty similar to the video with some parts looking different or being a bit beefier.
