V1 Jenna's Extended Track Goblin - 07 ss/sc donor

Ran a local 2 day autox this passed weekend. I decided not to muck with the car much, partially because I didn't want to introduce more variables and partially (mostly) because I ran out of time to tinker.

Here's my fastest run.

The supercharger swap is definitely moving up on my priority list... there were several spot on the course this weekend where I was wot and could have used a lot more power.

I finally got around to installing the new headlights that have been sitting in a box for at least a month or two... I printed a pair of @Mayor West 's headlight bases to use.

The DRLs can be either white or amber. I hooked up one of each so to see which one my crew chief liked better.

I also replaced the cobalt connectors and spaghetti with some better connectors.

Continuing down my list of upgrades, I started working on installing hood pins and hinges so I can tilt the hood. I got the hood pins installed yesterday.

These are the pins I used.

I'm planning to use regular flat hinges that are bolted to the radiator support and to lower front lip of the hood.

I still need to figure out how to mount a gas strut to hold the hood up when it's open.

I think either style would easily hold more pull weight than the fiberglass hood could handle. I'm planning to tilt my hood forward so there's very little risk of the hood moving while driving even if the pins fail.

I'm using the smaller push button pins that are rated at 150 lbs. The larger 2" button pins are rated for 500 lbs. My "back-of-the-napkin" math puts the shear force of one of those cotter pins at around 800 lbs.

Operation Super Crow has begun!

My oldest kid is home from college and offered to help me break the engine down so we’ve spent the last two nights wrenching.

We got all the accessories and stuff off then separated the engine and trans. From there, we started breaking down the engine. I’m hoping to get it completely torn down this week/weekend so I can get the block and head over to my local shop to get hot dipped. Once everything is good and clean, we’ll inspect all the parts and see what needs to be replaced.

Oh, notice that socket? I found it under the intake manifold….. From the rubbed spot on the block, it looks like it’s been there for a while….

Lots o updates

Installed the new steering arms and upgraded lower upright brackets. Also installed the parking brake kit and rear coilovers. Since I had to take the front coilovers out to swap the springs, I reinstalled them with the adjustment knob on the outward top to make it easier to reach.

Installed hinges on the hood so I can tilt it up. I still need to build another support bracket across the hood to stabilize it and provide a mounting point for a gas shock to hold it in place.

Huh I was going to say something about the shocks, but then I checked QA1's website:
All QA1 circle track shocks, except for stock mount, can be run upside down, upright and at all angles in between.
And I think these aren't considered stock mount? I'm about to pull my front suspension apart to install new lower rod end mounts and steering arms and I'm tempted to emulate...

Although it looks like I’m gonna have to replace my exhaust manifold. Oh well, I was considering getting a header anyway

My understanding is they can run at any angle. The `stock mount` statement is about the physical structure of the shock, not the shock itself. I.e. we can't run the rear coilovers upside down b/c they have a threaded piston rod.

I love seeing the wear and tear on a Goblin that has been "driven".

Where do you have your F/R shock dampers set for autoX?

I'm running 10 clicks in the front and 6 clicks in the rear although I'm not super happy with it right now.
Your tire contacts don’t look too bad in the turns.
Have you tried full stiff on the front shocks? I have found that setting really works well in the slaloms and hard corners by forcing the front to pick up more of the body roll Putting more downforce on the front tire.
