I finally won the battle against the gas tank. It is out and I am finally 100% done with the donor.
I hope those connectors that went in to the fuel filter weren’t important because I pretty much destroyed them trying to get them off the fuel filter.

I think you need it. Can’t remember. They are available at the auto parts, so not a big deal.

I cut the factory hoses off the fuel pump and ran new hose with clamps. The fittings are nice for the filter, but you can get them at the auto store cheap enough.

Well packed my wire harness up and it’s shipping out today. If all goes well I’ll get it back while my kid is away at his grandparents. He has zero interest in helping with the wiring harness and has said it’s the one thing I can do without out him.

On another note. Watching the radiator video, you are told to put locktite on the threads of the upper mounts. In the video he uses red. I already have blue on hand. Is that good enough or do in need to get the red stuff for the radiator?

I have always used blue on stuff I didn't want to rattle loose but could possibly have to remove without stripping the small bolt or something along those lines. It has never given me any issues on a few Harleys and a handful of sportbikes I have had over the years. I think if a Harley can't rattle it loose you should be okay.

I used red at first, had to remove it and it ripped the rubber insulator apart. Now I have blue on it.

Yeah that’s usually why I use blue. But I didn’t know if the high temp or the radiator would work it loose since usually red loctite has to be heated up to break loose

Double nuts on the bolt - will not come apart if you tighten them correctly (two wrench method) and can be removed much easier.

He's asking about the studs/bushings going into the radiator that you tighten by hand. "Be careful not to over tighten or you may rip the rubber from the stud" (or something like that)

Made more progress this weekend.
Removed wire harness from engine. Removed the starter, alternator and A/C compressor.
Got transmission separated from the engine.
Then removed the clutch and fly wheel.
Was hoping to get it on the stand before work but no such luck.
My kid informed me he has no interest in the tear down process any more just the assembly process.
While a bit disappointing to hear this will let me work a bit faster on the engine tear down and clean up.

I’m getting ready to place an order for new torque to yield bolts for the camshafts. Originally was gonna buy GM official ones but wondering if the Cloyes from Rock Auto would be good enough. They are way cheaper for sure. I like saving money but I don’t like to skimp on quality with parts like this.

Almost all TTY bolts come from just a handful of companies, most unfortunately are in China. Cloyes has a good reputation and good parts, I wouldn't be worried getting these bolts from them.

Well Fridays are rough for me. I’m all excited to get home and work on things I haven’t been able to all week. However by the time I get home I’ve just finished a 60hr work week and this one really took it out of me.
So I ended up passing out after dinner. Then got up and went out to the garage at 1am.
Got the engine in the engine stand. So super happy about that. I am gonna put the transmission on a dolly and tuck it in the corner, fold up the engine hoist and then can really start on the fun stuff. Gonna take a bit as I have a few things to buy so it’s gonna move at the pace of my wallet.
Is there any parts I should replace upgrade while I have the engine apart?
I keeping it NA and I am not against upgrading the engine but it needs to be something that’s worth the money spent.
Currently I am doing the full timing chain replacement, including the updgraded chain guide from ZZP.
Water pump, thermostat, header bolts, I’ve changed three of the fives timing sensors. The other two I just couldn’t get to till now. Replacing the water temp and oil pressure switches. Also gonna buy gauges for those so I can install those sending units while I can get to them easily.
All the rubber gaskets will be changed.
So any other suggesting please let me know.
I looked at the ZZP balance shafts. A little pricey but are they worth installing in a NA? Eventually upgrading the throttle body but that’s an easy one for after the engine is done.
The engine ran well wasn’t planning on changing the coil packs or injectors. Unless upgraded injectors would be useful. Doubt it on a NA.
Basically just trying to get an idea of what I should replace and budget for while I have the engine being worked on.
