Hello all.
My names Wayne.
I suppose I'm New here, but not to the Ecotec platforms. I've been interested in the Goblins for a couple years now, and that interest jumped even more when I seen a few at Tail of the Dragon over the last few years especially the turbo monster Goblin!! I've been around Ecotecs since about 06 when I bought my 07 Cobalt LS. I upgraded to the 09 4 Door Turbo Cobalt in 2012. I added an 08 Turbo HHR SS to the family in 2014, but sadly my wife got tired it and we had get rid of this past October for a new Jeep Compass. I bought an 05 Ion Redline in 2016 that has clutch problems, and I also have an 05 Cobalt SS parts car sitting in my garage as well, it ran well when I brought it home, but it needed a clutch, it's pretty rusted underneath, and there is no title. I'm just here doing some research and see what all is involved in getting this going. I'd love to do a build, and want to learn more before I dig into it. Obviously I love the turbo engine, but I do have the supercharged parts/donor car. If I do do a build I will probably it with what I have, and upgrade things like suspension and appearance over time. Thanks for letting me join up.

Welcome! Ask all the questions you need! Someone should respond in a fairly quick manner. I have a 07 SS/SC build going on, so the supercharger whine will be coming soon!

I'd really like to get my hands on another LNF to use as the donor, I may sell the Ion Redline, and part out the parts Cobalt I have, and see if I can find an LNF to use a the donor. I've got some time to think about what I want to do I'm out on deployment currently and have a few months before I return home, then I just have to convince the wife to let me do it.

Have you considered putting a turbo on one of the engines you currently own? Or just use the supercharger on one, it is fun, and the whine is addictive!

The 05 sounds like a perfect donor car for the build. You will not be disappointed in it's performance in a Goblin. It also makes for an easier build.

I have for the Ion Redline but I haven't thought about it for the possible Goblin build. I do have a spare k04 form my LNF, and a spare LNF intake, that I can use if I want to go the tubo route. More then likely I probably would just use LSJ out of the 05 SS I have, as the engine was 100 percent stock, and only has 100k, and it doesn't really require me to to modify much.

Where are you located? Maybe you could get a ride in a SC or Turbo from a local builder and see if you really want more than a LSJ has to offer. Obviously the kit is about $1K more for the turbo than the SC.

Sorry I forgot to mention I'm in the Navy and stationed in Norfolk, VA. I'm from Milford PA, and my wife is from around Danbury NC. I've seen handful of Goblins Last year at Cobalt Nation/Ecotec Nation Tail of the Dragon last year, and they looked great. I didn't get a chance to ride in one, kinda a bummer, maybe next time I see them out there I can hop in one. I'm sure the SC is plenty of fun, and more than enough power. Any idea of what a roughly what finished goblin weighs? Either way I have sometime to decide I'm on deployment witha few more months to go. It seems more and more like i'm going to have part out my parts car and sell the Ion Redline. I don't have a title for the parts car, and by now I'm sure the bill of sale for the parts car has gone missing. From all the reading that I have so far about titling and registration, it seems like those are crucial items that I will need. Maybe I can source a turbo cobalt after I sell those.

Wayne, welcome. Thanks for your service. A finished Goblin weight will depend upon option and add on accessories. Typically a Goblin will be somewhere around 1500 lbs. give or taken a few pounds.
