V1 Nuker's City Goblin build - 2007 SS SC Donor - Completed/Licensed

TheNuker
Okay sounds good, So I'll remove the rear sway bar tonight, Makes things easier hehe. I also don't need the radiator mounts on the sub frame right? Those are the 2 pieces that stick out on the right side of my picture with the big holes in them?

Thanks for everyone help,
Jordan

New Aluminum flywheel is on! Also a dual pass endplate for the inter cooler from zzp, It is supposed to have 40% more flow rate then stock.

Man Ive read so many differing opinions on lightweight flywheels. Of course all of them were concerning "heavy" cars. What made you decide on it?

Exactly that Jsatx, I'm thinking the less Kinitic energy stored in the light weight flywheel should feel just like the stock since the car will weight half as much. Not to mention 10lbs on the goblin is a lot of reduction!

Question, Maybe a stupid one at that.

Since the shocks on my donor are in rough shape. I am going to replace them.

Looking at the adjustable Koni shocks that ZZP sells the picture they show does not look like anything I'm seeing on the cobalt. Is that just a stock picture? Do the Koni shocks really look just like the OEM and I just need to add a spring?

If I buy this http://zzperformance.com/ecotec/suspension-brakes-handling/koni-sport-struts.html
What else do I need to make them work with the goblin?

Thanks!

Nuker,

That package uses the stock strut body with the stock guts removed and this strut cartridge replaces the guts. You can see the capture nut at the bottom of the cartridge that bolts thru the bottom of the stock strut body.

I'm looking at a set of adjustable struts such as:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Godspeed-Mono-RS-Damper-Coilver-Strut-Suspension-For-05-09-Chevrolet-Cobalt-/191821807492?fits=Model:Cobalt&hash=item2ca9787f84:g:TNIAAOSwoudW3jyw&vxp=mtr

This way I can adjust height and replace the springs with a lighter set since the Goblin is ~ 1/2 the weight of the Cobalt. I don't know how the front shocks are mounted so I don't know if I can even use the adjustable shocks in the above package. I also cannot find a set of just the adjustable struts as they all seem to want to sell a complete package (front and rear which in the Goblin's case is revered, of course.)

YMMV.

Paul at QA (provider of the front coilers) let me know that we can custom order a set of coil overs for the rear that would be sprung and valved exactly based on the weight and weight distribution. I haven't gotten a price yet, but I would imagine it would be between $400-$600 for a pair.

That is good to know! Once we can get a rear weight on each rear wheel, ordering the coilovers will be next!

Paul (another Paul, not the Paul from QA ;)) I know, it's aPauling!

Oh that is great to know Errorunknown. I think that will be a vital piece of getting this thing safe at high performance levels on the track.

Maybe we can get a group buy of the custom coilovers for the rear, That would be awesome.

This company is QA1.net right?

I'm in on this. But how much does unsprung weight factor in to this? Or is that a dumb question because it's "unsprung" and not related to the shocks...?

Only asking because I settled on pretty small wheels because they were so dang light. 10.9 lbs for the 15" wheels I'm getting, whereas Error IIRC is getting pretty huge (comparatively) rear wheels.

Yup that is the company, a group buy would be awesome! Wonder if we can get Adam's input since they've done a lot of testing so far.

Hmm, not sure if it factors in because it's holding up the car, however I'm not a suspension guru! And yes I am planning on running 17x10's in the rear with 285's or 315's!

I'd be in on buying some good rear coil-overs calibrated for our cars. Lonny and Adam may be working on this already.

I have updated the first page first post below donor pictures of all of the parts and part numbers I have replaced up to this time. I will add more there as needed.

What are you all re warping your wiring harness with? I was looking online at it seems your "Supposed" to use non sticky vinyl tape. I was going to use the 3m super 88, Is that okay?

Nuker-

JSATX
I bundled everything with Duck vinyl electrical tape, and then will wrap with Tesa 51036.

I would only use electrical tape at junctions where wires split from main harness and plugs. It's not a question of if but when it will turn into a gooy mess.

Also do not do a full wrap of the harness until everything is working and running correctly. All grounds installed etc... I've consolidated grounds, moved plugs, lots of things that would have been a big pain had it all been wrapped.
