V1 Rauq's Twincharged LSJ - #240 - GOBZILA

Rauq
Go external mic. Hero 7 black with the below external mic, mounted to one of the engine cover brackets.
I guess I could have clarified, I think I have the Hero3? As far as I know it's not compatible with a plug-in external microphone. I'm thinking of a voice recorder-style device and then syncing the audio and video recordings afterwards.

That video's been posted before, right? I swear I saw it a while back and that was one of my deciding factors to do a supercharged build, the whine is intoxicating.

It was on one of the Facebook groups.

Buy a new Gopro though, or at least a hero 5 black or newer, I upgraded from a hero 3 black and the difference is totally worth it. The built in image stabilization alone makes it worth it.

1/8 mile pass, 7.8 @ 88, 1.8 60'

They shut me down after one pass, said I needed arm restraints and a full cage and that they wanted to see how fast I'd go before decided if they needed to kick me. I was actually wearing arm restraints which I think opened the door to them being ok talking about it. I talked to the track owner and he asked me to send him some pictures and info on the car to send up to his sanctioning body (honestly not sure if that's NHRA, IHRA, or some other group) and let them decide if we're kosher. From my reading of NHRA I should be good with arm restraints, but my interpretation isn't the one that matters. I get it, I'm cool with it.

I've been collecting parts in preparation for taking the car down for the winter. Planned projects:

F23 swap with Torsen diff
DF's new shifter
80lb injectors with BRFS
Supercharger Pulley
New 3D printed side panel mounts
New 3D printed heat exchanger side mount and duct
Front end torque and alignment check
Radiator grille

Things in the pipeline that I'm not necessarily trying to do over the winter:
Adjustable brake vacuum regulator
Brake proportioning valve
Saturn Vue adjustable power steering controller (already have the motor)

edit: post #500, now I'm a Goblin Guru, I guess!

I already have parts in hand or on order for the things I am confident I'll tackle this winter. Steering controller just isn't a priority right now.

I'm definitely interested in how you handle those 3D printed side panel mounts. I feel like anything I design would fail at highway speeds and wrap the aluminum around my back tire.

Interested in the printed parts in general! I love how modular these cars are to accept things like that fairly easily.

There are so many printed parts I want to try but I have not started down the 3D printer path yet. I feel exactly the same as you - anything I create would be a catastrophic failure when I least needed it to be.

The only printed parts on mine so far are the front ABS covers and some hood latch brackets. I figured neither would be the big disaster if they failed. The hood would just flop onto the frame and only scratch some paint but be forced closed by gravity and wind.

Basically just a copy of @Brian74's design. I don't feel that I did a great job of riveting my side panels, but I also don't really have any other builds to reference off of to say I did an above- or below-average job. Depending on how the first few work out, I may or may not rivet the the front two attachment points.

I'm in the same boat as far as how well I think I did, except I used rivet nuts with stainless screws everywhere on all the panels, and am super happy and confident they're strong enough to live a long time. I also wanted something that a single allen wrench could pull off in minutes.

Those brackets are really neat, I just am not brave enough to make that permanent a jump, especially one that leans on 3D prints. Then again I'm judging it based on my own goofball 3D printing abilities, soooo...

I'd pay for some quality printed mounts, as that method provides a mount sans holes and rattles.

Oh I was actually being 90% facetious. I think my prints would work pretty well. They're holding the hood up fine! I'm just strangely averse to gluing things if I can avoid it. Definitely a personal choice though.

I put foam tape on all sheet metal contact points, and I have been reasonably rattle free. Maybe some unpleasant noise if the cabin was closed off, but wind blast and engine noise drowns almost everything out. I'm very happy with the screws and would do them again on a second car.

Random question: were I to pick up a car hauler trailer, and said trailer had an air dam like such, how effective would said air dam be in protecting from rain if it were encountered at highway speeds? Would the car get soaked or just misted?
