V1 Stonewerks’ Track Goblin - 09 LT donor, Michigan Build #272

Brett
Not required, but do make a convenient place to attach hoses, wires, etc. that are located in that area.
Agreed. There is a sensor that fits in one of the holes on those tabs perfectly.

Also, most powder coaters will blast before coating so no need to strip it unless you are doing it yourself.

Getting stuck early on with the wiring harness thinning videos and looking for assistance from those with more know-how.

I have a 2009 normally aspirated motor so thinking what I am seeing is different that what you with turbos and super chargers have.

For the electronic brake connector that he shows at 1:33
I think this lines up with this plug that I have. Am I correct about that?

Next he talks about a vacuum sensor connector 1:47
I cannot find that connector on what I have. Is that only used on machines with turbo or supercharger?

Then in the video he has a thick ground wire 1:56
I am failing to find wire that is thicker than the others. Is this again the difference of the NA motors?

I think that is an ECM plug. I have a 2008 NA and my ABS plug had a red plate for the pins that had a lot of twisted wires in it.

Make sure you have all the plugs labeled before you begin where they came from and watch 1 or 2 videos ahead of where you are and that helped me with understanding the plan and the process. the vacuum sensor is only for the boosted cars.

I have that plug labeled as ECM but was doubting my tag on it.

Is it possible I don't have a ABS plug on my 2009 LT?

Underside of what I have labeled ECM. I think I cut a wrong cable out of this bundle also.

Yes. My donor was a 2008 Cobalt 1LT; absolutely poverty-spec. There was no ABS equipment on it. I imagine that yours, being a similar spec, also did not have ABS. Consulting the RPO codes on your donor's sticker or maybe a VIN decoder would confirm.

You still have the stock ECM right? Pull it out of storage, and see if it fits that connector.

@Ross - It plugs into the J1 port of the OEM ECM module.

Where are people getting wiring diagram for the Cobalt? I think I need to get access/purchase a set of those diagrams to have some confidence that I am cutting/removing the correct wires as my wiring seems enough different than what is in the video that I have lost confidence I am getting the correct wires.

For instance, in Video 2 at the 3 minute mark I think I have the same plug he shows for the ambient temp sensor
. I labeled my plug as headlights simply because I didn't know what it was when I took it out of the car and this is what the plug was near. In the picture I think the cables on the left (yellow and orange) are the collision sensor wires that he says to cut. The middle pair of yellow and green with a white strip keep. In the video he does not have a pair on the right (pink and purple) like I do but I think they might be the hood ajar sensor he mentions but not sure what color a hood ajar sensor is supposed to be. And when I trace them back it goes to the Blue BCM plug.

I got a my.alldata.com supscription that I've been trying to figure out. I'm using the heck out of the search bar on there. lol.

whew, we have been gone for a long time and we are finally getting back to this build and we have run into a major issue I think.

When we were taking the car apart, we broke the clutch and tossed the part thinking we could easily find a replacement.
We are currently striking out on finding a replacement clutch bracket and pedal for our car. I have not been able to find a place to purchase one nor can we find a manual Cobalt at the junk yard. Even if we could find one at the junk yard, I am thinking we would have to do a complete dash removal to get to the part we need.

Does anyone know where we could source a clutch bracket and pedal assembly?

What we are needing is the part show in video

Dale, that URL link didn't work, but their website does, so I entered a 2009 Chevy Cobalt, and got this screen shot.
