Bumping because I'm also excited. I've had a mk7 since they came out, and it's a fantastic car, the EA888.3 is perfectly suited for this. As a side note, another good, cheaper option for the donor vehicle could be a base model golf with the 1.8t. They're basically the same as the GTI, slightly shorter stroke engine, block is almost identical, and the engine has very similar potential when tuned. You can find cars with the 1.8 for less than a few thousand dollars on copart easily.

Year available: 2015-2019
Turbocharged (yes/no): Yes
Base HP: 170
Tuned HP on pump gas without internal mods: 350+ hp
Auto trans option (yes/no): Yes
Tuning and mod support (yes/no): Yes (compatible with Mk7 GTI parts)

Also, if/when I get a V2 Goblin, I'm definitely going to be working to make it manual. Might need a funky bracket to bolt the shifter cable bracket to the front of the transmission, and swapping the shifter around 180deg, but doesn't seem like it would be too hard.

I just got in contact with Adam about some questions I had, he had no new details to share right then, but sounds like they have a running prototype of this V2 and plan to share some more info and maybe some media, but didn't give an anticipated date for those updates. I'm hopeful that it will be in the next few weeks. I am excited to have some more to go off here to plan and budget for getting a V2 kit.

I should "borrow" some sticker camo we use on prototypes at work and parade mine around like it's a secret V2

Does anyone know if the V2 Goblin will have the same appearance as the V1? Form follows function with the Goblin. It's an incredible product, but it could use a little help in the appearance department. Please don't take any offense at that. I'm a fan.

I'm hoping one is at GF24 but who knows.

The Golf option is excellent.

Here’s an alternate idea: Feel free to shoot it down. What about the compact Honda J series? There is an adapter to connect them to,4 cyl. transmissions. They are already used as mid rear packages by superfastminis. There are supercharger options and turbo kits.

More trivia for this unlikely candidate: If you don't use a J series transmission, Inline Pro said that a J series motor will mate to any k-series transmission with their adapter plate. A J32A2 or other motor given a 90mm throttle body and aftermarket headers will make 280 to 285hp to the wheels with no other modifications. That's on a junkyard motor.

I'm still wondering why the V2 Goblin is VW based, when comparatively there are gazillions more of Honda Accord and Civic donors alive and in the previously owned emporiums.

When my wife was car shopping back in 2018 we test drove a Nissan. I read that particular model had a CVT in it, but when we test drove it, you could feel it shifting. Found out that they just programmed fake shifts in because they thought people expected it o_O

I am planning on putting in a J35 with a subaru 6 speed into the back of a suzuki carry hahaha

I agree, that’s why I’m doing a k series instead of cobalt and vw. There’s just so much more support for the platform and parts out there, and it would definitely sell more then vw but that’s just my opinion

By my last count there have been six other builders who were going to forego the GM drivetrain and install a Honda drivetrain. To date there have been no builders on the forum who have shared they have completed their Honda build. Not to state that this swap is not impossible to accomplish - everything is figuroutable - but keep us apprised of your progress. Yours would be the first. Good luck.

The “ME” that was holding my breath to see a K motor powered Goblin died of suffocation 3 years ago in a parallel universe.
I guess being a fan of K and building with a K are different things. Ohhh! It’s a conspiracy! Big Eco-Tec is stopping them? (Not a believer) heck there has even been a rubber band powered Goblin! An Electric Goblin! I’m thinking Dreaming is good, actually doing is better!
