V1 Joe's 2009 F40 SS/TC #470

Possibly. I just looked at Mike Sno's old for sale post and saw what they looked like for the first time. I feel like I would eventually break the reversers or something in that mechanism.
How is the travel left to right? Is there enough for one more gear?
I wonder if I would need longer cables. I feel like the F40 shifter atop the trans sits higher and that takes up some length.
I would say pretty good. I can push past 5th gear pretty easily

Do you have the old tunnel cap? The group buy shifter mounts on that. I have one if you want it Or just want to try and adapt it to your setup.

DF sent me an original tunnel cap and a 3pc unit for the new shifter.

Ill be pulling the seats out, 2pcs of the tunnel off and looking at why the Left/Right cable is binding up. I suppose if I just switch them a cable that is binding up forwards/backwards is easier to deal with as Im doing the motion and not waiting for the trans and shifter to return to center.

Gotcha. It’s sitting on my shelf taking up space, if you change your mind. Hell, I have 2 stock cobalt shifters too, if need be

Shift cables that get melted by being too close to the exhaust are a bind source. Some melt on the inside where you can't see it, but usually you can feel where the casing is bulged.

Here’s a picture of it in 5th gear

When I get outside, I can grab the shifter and see how far it cycles and such. Being on the bench, it should make it easier to see how far left, right, up, down it goes.

Updates.

#1 - it wasn't a ground. Figured Id just put that out there because, we'll, it always is.
#1.1 - the shifter cables needed to be adjusted to extremes to get the shifter to function *normally. Perhaps a smidge more of dialing yet, but the shifter returns to nuetral/nuetral and shifting is doable. No more magic 8-ball feeling.
#2 - see picture. Yup. It did a thing. Probably because I didnt tighten the clamp. It did that in the parking lot before the drive and I didnt notice it right away.

#3 - First trip to the gas station. Have to make a maiden voyage at some point. Right?

#4 - front wheels are toed out. Darty, but the eyeball alignment on the first try didnt end up tootoo bad.

#5 - I had my first "don't look at him and he won't see me" moment with local PD, he had his window rolled down and I just kept looking straight. I mean, im legal, so it mightve been just a "hey, hi", guess Ill never know.

#6 Attention. Lol, people are taking out loans just to pay it to this thing. No photos, but a definitely some smiles and a couple thumbs up.

#7 suspension tips? Tires were kinda bouncy, 20psi all around. I havent even got a baseline of what clicks go where.

#8 you need a passenger for tuning, or you risk losing the laptop. Scott volunteered.

Its sketchy for sure, scary at times and very new, but gosh darn it does the wind feel good in your hair.

#1- it is always a ground :D

#2- air filters are for wusses :D

#3- sweet

#4- get some toe plates and a digital angle meter. You’ll be resetting the alignment a bunch, might as well have the tools.

#5- don’t be suspicious, don’t be suspicious….

#6- get use to it :D it’s part of the fun

#7- lower the rebound settings on the shocks and less air pressure if need be, but yes, it’s a little bouncy.

Oh snap, I didnt notice it when I got gas. I literally took a picture of it and didnt notice it disconnected.
SS/SC guys be like A2W? Outside of your intake manifold?
Blew off the charge pipe before I even got to data log. I wondered why the car was a turd for the entire drive, came home and had a good laugh.
Also forgot to connect the speed sensor, so I just followed traffic. (I was probably going 10 under)

Will logs be of any use driving without that charge pipe connected or is it just like sending false readings to the tuner?

Oh! The oddball shift pattern isnt too bad to work with. Definitely not normal. But not bad.

Also.
My brakelights were on the entire trip. Even with a new brake switch, during calibration the scanner says "device limits exceeded" or something like that. Im going to try my other BCM that I had cloned and see if that does something, but Im at a loss for this one.

comegetjoe
Yeah, during calibration we were getting that error, but if Brett took it one step further and grounded that other wire... maybe thay might fix my issue too!

Edit* - verified, that is the same as my pin in that connector. This could be good.

#4 I'm cheap and bought 2-4' levels from harbor freight and set them on 2x4 scraps against the wheels to set toe, I made sharpie marks on the levels and measured the difference from those to what the Longacre toe plates would be then did the triangle math to adjust my measurements. This got my alignment feeling better than the rack alignment I paid for...

#5 I am amazed I haven't been pulled over yet either, got some looks from local LE, maybe maybe they just don't want to deal with the paparwork involved plus I figure if they let golf carts and side by sides slide under the radar I'm probably ok as long as I'm not doing 2x speed limit.

#7 Mine did this until the alignment got close, then it settled down and feels quite smooth

#8 I used a bungee around my laptop to hold it in while driving be careful not to put too much pressure on the usb port though I broke a cable luckily not the laptop replaced with a 90° usb from a night vision riflescope and it sits against the seat much better

Side note re check all suspension bolts I recently found a few more completely loose I know I tightened them before, they must be backing out or working in.... can't explain but with the rear wheel hub about to fall off (finger tight bolts) it makes me nervous enough to get the torque wrench out and make sure everything is still snug..

Whats up with this windshield bracket? Its not close to fitting, high sides in the center.
Figured I'd try and fix it by cutting the center tab off because it looked like that was the problem. Didn't help. The bracket just looks like its not cut right.

Im going to email DF and see what the deal is because this is making me grumpy.

Lol, email, yeah right.

It's more likely the fiberglass hood isn't right since it's tough get fiberglass just right once it leaves the mold. Not that it changes your problem. Easiest fix would probably be some spacers shaped like the mounting points (or larger) to raise it up so it doesn't hit.

Ill try out some stacked washers and different hardware.
