V1 Manny's City Goblin - 07 SS/SC Donor

Nice. You're flying along. The dash weighs a ton. Extra hands will come in handy.
I 2nd that, and the drivers side is much heaver than the passenger. I made the mistake of having my wife on that side thinking there would be better places for her to hold on to. Well that ended quickly when she couldn't lift it

Great progress for a day, very nice!!

You're cooking right along! It's nice to have a quiet day to yourself. It makes me shutter to see pictures and think about that early stage of the project.

To answer your question about how we painted the engine, I put it up on a large bench I have in the basement garage so I could work on it whenever I wanted. To get it up there and to paint it, I used this handy little tool...

Spent a few more hours this morning working.

You guys were right. The dash is heavy. I ended up removing it on my own. At first I thought I was going to have to slide / roll it but to my surprise I had it essentially dead lifted and made it into the garage.

The wiring harness is removed and the last thing I need to do is remove the fuel tank / whatever is associated with the rear.

Do we need the front seat belt bolts for assembly? I don't have a T50 so I didn't get those removed.

At this point everything is in the car and hopefully next weekend I can get rid of it. I need to figure out who will take it. Any recommendations?

If your state is like Missouri, you will want the seat belts and associated hardware. Missouri will not pass a vehicle that has racing harnesses in it. Although they are better and more safe than automotive OEM belts, they have not been tested to the standards of OEM belts.

I kept mine and I'm going to install them for the inspection.

My son broke my first T50 on the belts. He was using the impact but was multi-tapping the trigger instead of one solid long burst to loosen them. They can take a heck of a lot of force to loosen.

Hmm...since my donor was in an accident. They are locked up so I don't think they would be of any use for inspection. Ive read up on Maryland but it seems like it's all about who does your inspection. It'll be a while either way for me.

I saved mine for inspection. If you do happen to need them just for that you can borrow them if shipping them is cheaper than getting some from a junkyard.

Well I just finished up the videos for the rear suspension, fuel tank and the dash. The dash was a pain. A lot of screws hiding to get to the wiring harness. Tomorrow I think I'm going to start cleaning some of the parts. I may start on the wiring. Im planning on taking the shell Monday to the scrap yard.

As a side note if sold off the lowering springs, air intake, tail lights and rear lip. Still have some of the interior, downpipe and exhaust.

A little more progress...I got rid of the cobalt, gave it away in return for someone picking it up. Otherwise I would have had to rent a trailer to scrap it myself.

Then I pressure washed the engine, subframe, etc...the engine could def use some cleaning still. I think I'll really have to take my time to get it to where I want it. The picture is before the wash.

When I took the subframe out one of the bolts was seized in the control arm bushing so I worked on getting it out. About 1.5 hours struggling with all the wrong tools (like multiple hammers, sawzal, impact wrench, torch etc) I decided to go get a cut off wheel big enough to do the job. A five minute drive to home Depot and another five minutes later the bolt was cut enough to get out.

So now I need to get a bushing and an subframe bolt. I don't have a press but I think iIcan rent the kit at advance Auto. My head is still ringing from 30 minutes holding the sawzal.

Bad weather may be coming so I plan on working on the dash harness soon, that or I may work on painting a few parts that I had cleaned up.

I pressure washed my engine and transmission also. A month later I found out water had gotten into the clutch and rusted the heck out of the flywheel. Destroyed it. For me it did not matter because I was going to replace the clutch and flywheel anyways.

Man. I really hope mine doesn't do that. I'm trying not to replace a bunch of parts.

Are the Moog K6698s what you used for your bushings?

Also I read that the subframe bolts are not reuseable...did you guys get new ones?

On my aluminum arms, I had a shop press them in for me. On the base Cobalt I worked on, I was able to press them in using and old carb and the log splitter (don't ask, it wasn't pretty but it worked great).
