C.A.D: The use of Cardboard to Aid in the Design process of a product.

Used a little trick I learned from watching @Brian74 build log develop to score the cardboard to get the bend I wanted. Hoping I can transition this to the aluminum panel for that section to mirror the bend of the chassis. Found 2 spots where the cardboard didn’t sit nice when held in place with zip ties, so gonna add 2 more tabs on each side to get the fit I want.

**please ignore my poor excuse for welds. It’s been 15-16 years since I last welded and this is the first time using flux core. I’ve used MIG, ARC, and Oxy and wish I had the space for a proper welder and gas tank**

Took the chassis and some parts to get sandblasted yesterday. Plan was to spray paint it after blasting to save some money. But I caved and will be spending $1600 for blasting and powder. Sticking with the Illusion Cherry.

Doing the last few things on the engine so it’s ready to go in the chassis ASAP once it’s back from powder. Issue I’m having is the clutch elbow on top of the transmission.

What’s the trick to getting the dang pin in on the transmission side? I have the elbow lined up so the grooves line up and it seats all the way, but I can’t get the pin to go all the way through to lock in place.

I like what you did here to make it maneuverable!! GREAT IDEA!!
Initially thought I should’ve got rotating casters, but glad I went stationary. Allows for more control when moving it solo so I didn’t hit my engine on the furniture mover next to it. Also put a car wheel dolly under the front so I didn’t have to lift it the whole time. Took it out for transport so it wasn’t as free moving before strapping it down.

Put the clip in before pushing the elbow on (if I'm understanding what you are asking).

I tried that and it wasn't going on easily. I was worried about pushing down so hard that I would push the clutch elbow inside the transmission. Lining up the transmission myself was enough of a b*tch that I didn't wanna have to do it again o_O But if that's how you get it on with the clip then so be it.

Whelp, the clutch pipe elbow will sit all the way, but the clip still only goes half way on. The elbow is secure like this as I can’t pull it off, so might secure the pin in this position (maybe a paper clip and bend the pieces on the far side instead of the factory clip?).

Got the fuel injectors and fuel rail on, put the need jackshaft bearing on (need to install the jackshaft still). Ordered all of the AN fittings and SS PTFE lines I’m going to use for the external oil cooler and heat exchangers.

Spoke with the Powder Coat shop and they said chassis and stuff should be done by the end of the week. I spray painted the small pieces gloss black that I wanted and also the subframe.

Added some eye bolts to the subframe for drag chains as well before paint. Should be ready to start assembly early next week (have reserve duty this weekend).

Ran the coolant lines, installed the radiator mount, floor pan and seat brackets last night. Plan for today is install the steering rack, brake and clutch lines, and pedal box. Since I’m going manual brakes, I know this will take some extra time to install.

It has a smaller ID than traditional heater hose since it’s -16AN SS line. I was able to feed this through with 1 hand and the other hand stabilizing the chassis. Believe ID is 1” but don’t quote me. Got it here:

Autobahn88 Synthetic Rubber Hose with High Tensile Stainless Steel Braided (Double Layer) compatible with Fluids : Oil, Water, Coolant, Methanol. Silver. (-16AN, 10 Feet) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B019O1XA6...t_i_6GGGHGKF6EFYWKNNBBWM?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

Using 16AN to 1-1/4” adapters to connect at the radiator and engine:

Moroso 63521 Fitting https://www.amazon.com/dp/B009RL342...t_i_P94876ZMTBZCVQDC0HHK?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

I may rob your idea. Those hoses change the look up a lot

Wasn’t my idea, I stole it from someone else on here :p don’t remember who exactly, but it was someone in a more northern state so it was argued it’d be fine there with less flow to the radiator compared to me sitting down in balmy Florida

This is my only concern... I plan to track the car so I think I'll go with the full size hose... BUT, this made me think about dressing up that hose a bit with a sleeve to make it look nice for Cars & Coffee.

I'm aiming for 400whp on my setup and I drive kinda hard normally. I'll report back my temps and what not once I'm built/registered. I'm also going to see how the dual heat exchangers will perform for the intake coolant being in series/parallel to see if it's worth the added cost. I'm also running an external oil cooler so many factors at play. Could also lower the temp at which the radiator fan comes on to increase some cooling.

Nothing a little coolant additive like Purple Ice can't help. I've ran it in a few of my past turbo cars and Temps were 5-10⁰ cooler.

I read so many of the build threads.... I had forgotten you were the one doing the extra cooling including an oil cooler. That should help with temps a lot. I am sure I will be doing a turbo swap in the future, and will likely add an extra (or much larger) inter-cooler then.
