V1 Traé’s Goblin (06’ SS/SC #501)

Rttoys
JBinTX got me into it, but I’m not sure how he got into it. Don’t be afraid. SCCA loves new people getting into the sport. I know here everyone is real friendly showing you the ropes and such. There is “rookie school” SCCA puts on, but it’s only once or twice a year in your area and fills up quick. The wife took the course a few months ago and loved it. Very informative.

heres 2 SCCA organizations in Ohio, but not sure what’s close to you.

if one is near, just go and hang out. Catch a ride with someone and see what you think.

The weather this Easter was exceptionally nice, and to top it off, I had a Goblin to drive around! My wife, although extremely skeptical of my journey through the build, loves riding in the car. We were able to enjoy a full day of around 150 miles driving between family households for Easter lunch and dinner, and the countless drives around the block for everyone’s first ride.

My wife and daughter both dislike the Goblin.

My wife: "you're gonna get hurt in this thing, I'm surprised you're still with us"

My daughter: "Why is it so loud? It stinks. Very MEH."

:(
Make sure to remind her of the “too loud” when she brings home some drift bud Hoonigan as her Boy Friend. Couldn't have picked some bill gates guy from the Math Club??

My youngest son was in middle school and one day I picked him up on my 1982 Honda 750C, a Brit looking version of 750's, rather restrained looking IMO. He was totally embarrassed(he would have to B****!??) Boy was he wrong! For the next year all he heard about was how cool it was to be picked up on a motorcycle! Within a week everyone with a motorcycle made it a point to pick their kid up on their Motor. One Dad borrowed a Ural with a side car to get his twins!(the things we do for our kids, Eh!?;)) Both school security officers rode theirs in, making them cool instantly!(both were semi retired cops, not in the job for the money!).

I picked up a wideband yesterday and am in the process of getting it wired, this is very foreign to me and trying to read through the diagram and understand everything.

I have switched power for the red wire, a ground for the black wire, and a wire from the AC Pressure Sensor to the white wire to monitor AFR in HP Tuners.

Do I need to worry about the brown analog negative or is this only needed if I have a separate data logger as shown in the diagram? If it is needed, can this be coupled with the gauge ground? I just don’t want to button everything up and have it not work correctly.

Brown should be tied into the ground supplied by the ECM for the AC sensor if there is one. This is sometimes called by GM "low reference" or "low ref". If there isn't one labeled for that sensor, I would tie it to another ECM sensor ground since there is probably only one sensor ground buss in the ECM.

Would any ground to the frame work? I have extras in the front under the hood but can tie it into the ground lug under the fuse box if needed. The main fuse box ground is in the rear.

Ideally it'd go to the black/white wire on C1/56 at the PCM, but it'll work without it. Don't ask me how I know.

But if you ask me how I know anyway, I'd tell you some idiot cut the black/white wire out of their engine harness. I've also tuned several other cars that were set up without reference grounds, mostly out of necessity/lack of availability, and not found it to be an issue yet. I do like to do a sanity check on WBO2 and factory narrowbands to ensure they correlate, so I'm reasonably confident I'm not missing a statistically significant amount of accuracy on the reading.

It seems the one you have highlighted is the signal ground shown in the connector view. I still have that wire and will tie it in there!

One of the pro tuners on HPT forum recommends videoing the gauge readout and HPT screen readings at the same time and confirming they match to account for any voltage shift.

Wideband is mounted, was able to make a small bracket out of some sheet metal sitting around the garage. Working with 13 year old tin snips, it’s not the best looking thing, but it holds the mount and is pretty darn solid.

I have all wires extended from the rear AC Pressure sensor and o2 sensor. Just need to finish connecting all wires in the tunnel. VERY glad I used rivnuts since I had to remove the front and back tunnel covers to fish the wire through.

Also took the time to touch up some road rash I got from a helluva hump in the road. Took the paint right off the mount on the hood and the cross member for the radiator mount. I’m thankful nothing broke and it was just cosmetic.

I was able to grab HP Tuners from a member selling their Goblin on the forum. Hoping to have it this weekend or early next week. I am super excited to dive into the intricacies of tuning and see what I can mess up!(Knocks on wood)

How bad is using the 2nd o2 bung for a wideband in the DF supplied exhaust? Seems a bit close to the motor and not angled right.

Those that have used it, what is your experience with the longevity of the sensor?

Was able to pull my tune last night. I have been comparing it to a stock file I found on the HPT Repository and a tune I found on the forum for my setup. My PCM has a ZZP sticker on it and I was told it was tuned by them in the past. When comparing the files I do not see much difference between the tune I have now and the stock tune I found. When comparing the tune I got from the forum, there are a lot of differences. I have ever done this before but would have thought there would be a decent amount of changes from stock.

Is it safe to copy a tune with significant changes or should I take it a step at a time and tune it slowly through logs?

So, what are your changes from stock?

There are changes made to every single section in the 60lb Injector_2.8 Pulley file compared to the file I currently have in the car.

Here are the differences from the files attached; As_found vs Stock
not sure if just these screenshots will help or tell you much, still trying to research and understand the meaning of some the different tabs and numbers.
