Can I use salvage parts instead of a full donor?

You can technically piece a Goblin V1 build together from individual parts at a salvage yard, but we strongly recommend starting with a complete donor car instead of buying parts one by one.

Some components, like suspension pieces or body parts, are fairly easy to find at a salvage yard. The problem is the items that are difficult and time-consuming to remove, such as the main wiring harness and other electrical pieces. Salvage yards often cut wiring harnesses while pulling other parts, so there is a real risk that the harnesses you find will be incomplete or damaged.

When you buy a whole Chevrolet Cobalt donor, you get the engine, transmission, subframe, wiring harnesses, computers, fuel system parts, and many small brackets and connectors that are easy to overlook when making a shopping list. Many builders have found complete donors for less than what they would have spent buying only the engine, transmission, and subframe separately.

Because of the extra cost, time, and risk of missing or damaged pieces, piecing together a Goblin V1 from salvage yard parts usually ends up being more expensive and frustrating than buying a complete Cobalt donor from the start.
