Saturn Ion Compatibility
Last updated: Nov 18, 2025 by Adam Doyle
The Saturn Ion is not 100 percent compatible as a donor for the Goblin V1 and may require custom work to complete a build. We have not fully evaluated all differences between the Ion and the Cobalt, but based on initial inspection there are enough variations to create potential challenges.
One example is the brake master cylinder and reservoir. On the Cobalt, we supply custom machined adapters to relocate the reservoir so it clears the Goblin hood. The Ion uses a different master cylinder and reservoir design, which means our relocation parts will not fit. You would need to engineer your own mounting solution or attempt to retrofit Cobalt components and ensure they work with the Ion pedal assembly.
The gauge cluster is also different and will not mount directly to the Goblin chassis without custom brackets or modification. There may be additional differences in wiring, electronics, mounting points, and other components that we have not documented.
If you choose to use an Ion, plan on significant custom fabrication and possibly sourcing Cobalt parts to fill gaps. Because of the number of unknowns, we cannot confirm whether using an Ion is a practical path for building a Goblin V1.
For most builders, a complete Cobalt donor remains the simplest and most cost-effective option.
