Goblin V1 Compatible Donor
Last updated: Nov 18, 2025 by Adam Doyle
The only compatible donor vehicles for the Goblin V1 are the Chevrolet Cobalt and the Pontiac G5. Even cars built on similar platforms, such as the Chevrolet HHR or Saturn Ion, are not fully compatible due to differences in components, electronics, and mounting locations. Using those vehicles would require additional work to modify parts or replace them with Cobalt components.
Using any other make or model becomes an even larger challenge, because none of the necessary donor parts will properly fit the Goblin frame. The Goblin V1 reuses far more than just the engine and transmission, so swapping donors is not as simple as adapting another powertrain.
To give you an idea of why a full Cobalt or G5 donor is required, here are some of the major components reused from the donor:
Subframe
Control arms
Knuckles
Bearing hubs
Steering rack
Steering column
Pedal boxes
Brake master cylinder
Shifter assembly
BCM and ECM (and TCM for automatic builds)
Ignition switch
Gauge panel
Fuel pump
If you choose to use any donor other than a Cobalt or G5, it would be up to you to modify the Goblin frame, adapt all of these parts, and solve extensive mechanical and electrical integration challenges.
For most builders, sticking with the correct donor is the fastest, easiest, and most cost-effective way to complete a Goblin V1.
