New V2 Cage Options: Main Hoop X, Rear Cage X, and Roof Bars

We've been working through a list of cage options we wanted to bring to the V2, and three of them are ready to talk about.

Main Hoop X-Brace

The main hoop X-brace adds a second diagonal across the main hoop to form a full X behind the occupants. It's a brand new option for the Goblin. It wasn't offered on the V1.

Beyond the symmetry it brings to the look of the cage, the second diagonal puts the main hoop in a stiffer configuration than a single diagonal can manage on its own. Loads applied to the top of the hoop get distributed down both sides rather than fed into a single corner, which makes the whole structure behind the driver more resistant to deformation under load.

Rear Cage X-Brace

The rear cage X-brace adds a pair of crossed diagonals above the engine bay, tying the rear cage together above the engine bay.

This one's a functional option more than a cosmetic one. Some of the stricter rulebooks for racing events that the Goblin runs well at, hill climb in particular, require this kind of bracing on the rear cage to pass tech.

The tradeoff to be aware of: the X-brace makes engine servicing slightly more cramped from above. It doesn't affect assembly or powertrain removal, since the V2 drops the powertrain out from below the car rather than lifting it out the top, but routine top-side work like plugs, coil packs, and sensor access takes a little more finesse with the bars in place.

Full Cage Roof Bars

Last up, roof bars are back as an option on the full cage configuration.

Optional roof bars return as a full cage configuration option, running fore-to-aft between the front hoop and main hoop.

V1 builders will recognize these immediately. We offered them on the V1 and they were a popular pick. The roof bars sit on top of the full cage and bridge between the front hoop and main hoop, running straight fore-to-aft.

They don't change the structural picture much, but a lot of builders like the look.

Ordering and Pricing

Builders in the first batch of V2 kits have already been notified of these options directly. For everyone else, pricing for the three new options will show up alongside the rest of the V2 configurator in a forthcoming update. Keep an eye on the site over the next few months.
