V1 LeoZug's Montana Street Goblin - '05 Cobalt SS donor

Can anyone show me how the dzus faster thing is mounted on their hood/frame? The only way that makes sense to me would make it impossible to raise the hood on the hinges. The part attached to the hood would hit the underside of the radiator support and not be able to rotate upward.

Ah. So theres no quickly undoing the fasteners and raising the hood? Ok. I can’t imagine that would need to much I guess.
You will most assuredly have that hood on and off a lot. I just got used to using the Dzus fasteners but others have designed a front lifting mechanism with a piano hinge.

My hood is opened and closed for a couple weeks and then closed for 8 months straight. But if you're looking for some inspiration:

Hey guys. Almost done. Just a few plugs before my first start. Hopefully?

On the engine side of the main harness are two purple plugs. They seem to be exactly the same and I’m not sure which one gets connected to what. I’ll get wire colors this evening if needed.
The other is this square plug, also at the engine end of the harness. Any advice on where this one goes? Again, I can get the wire colors if needed. Thanks.

The first one is engine harness to main harness, the one identical is to the injector harness. I can’t remember what colors go to what but if it doesn’t start one way switching around, it’ll start the other way. I know not very scientific.

The second one is your post cat oxygen sensor connector. If you’re not using both oxygen sensors, then that one will just be left unused

Most connectors have the same number of wires both sides of each connector(hint 1)wire colors usually match on both sides/ends of connectors(hint 2). Pull back the tape and convolute tubing and check for wire color match........... I got tripped up by a blue wire and a yellow wire, (I pulled back the covering the blue one was faded from purple and the yellow was faded from orange!) That "yellow" wire sent me to school! I checked wiring diagrams, dug and dug at any info, there was no yellow wire anywhere near that connector! Faded! ARRGH! If you are color blind, well I cannot even imagine the trouble that might find YOU!

So I got brave and put gas in for the first time and tried to start it. It gave a good healthy crank but no start. I’m not sure where to go from here. My fist place of concern is the fuel pump wiring. I don’t hear the fuel pump running but I’m deaf and I’m not sure when it would run anyway. I have an ‘05 but when DF did my harness they put an ‘06 connector for the fuel pump so they don’t match. I don’t want to buy a new fuel pump so I bought new connectors and tried wiring using the attached diagrams to make the connection with only 4 of the 7 wires. The others seem to be warning lights and things. I’m also not sure how to check if I have spark? Not sure why I wouldn’t but who knows at this point. Any advice where to start trouble shooting?

Spray some flammable brake cleaner or starter fluid in the intake. If it tries to start you aren't getting fuel but have spark. If it doesn't, you don't have spark and may or may not have fuel.

I don't think that DF changed plugs on you but there is a bulkhead EVAP/fuel pump connector under the second row seats in the Cobalt. That might be the difference in the plugs. For most people not keeping the EVAP canister, they splice through that bulkhead connection directly to the fuel pump. I had to get creative as I kept my EVAP system. See below:

Reading back to what I did years ago, I am afraid I have no idea what I am talking about, but maybe more into the wiring you might gleam a gem from it.

Also if you are new to adding fuel, the fuel line is full of air and as a non return system, you have to bleed the air out through the fuel rail or crank til the cows come home.

Good luck,

Joe

It isn't a mistake that the 06 fuel pump connector is on your wiring harness.
DF doesn't use the 05 fuel pump in their tank. I'm not sure what is different about the 05 fuel pump, but DF recommends using the 06 pump.
AllData has the wire colors wrong on this connector, but the link I supplied has the correct connector pinout for the 06 pump.

When I got my harness back and couldn't figure out how to hook up the fuel pump, Lonny told me to buy a new fuel pump that matches. That's disappointing as they seem to be about 200$. There are some cheaper ones online but I don't know if the sellers are reputable. The '05 has 2 separate sensors that combine into a 7 pin connector. The harness I got back from DF has a single 4 pin connector with all black wires I believe? Do just suck it up and replace a perfectly fine fuel pump?

I would probably get one of the midgrade approx $100 ones before the $50 on eBay. I haven't had much luck with automotive electrical items from eBay. I buy a lot of stuff on eBay, but that is a category I stay away from. Your experience may have been better than mine.
