V1 Kyle's Street Goblin #228- 07 SS/SC Donor

Where is the terrible noise coming from when you try and start it with key? Have you tried unplugging the instrument cluster?
It's coming from the starter. It will crank for half a second then act like it is slipping teeth. Like I said though, I can jump the relay and it starts flawlessly.

Sounds like the starter solenoid is not getting enough current to hold the starter gear shaft extended to keep contact with the flywheel teeth. Ground perhaps? I don't see how this is related to removing the ambient light sensor?

By jumping the relay, are you talking about the solenoid on the starter or the one in the fuse box? I would check the grounds and start checking voltage as it passes through relays. And make sure you you haven’t drained the battery messing with the lights.

Don't be too worried. A new BCM isn't that expensive, niether is an IP (instrument panel). I have "used up" 2 BCMs and an IP when I was driving without a body, and collecting rain water in those electrical storage boxes. I think it was $40 for a used BCM, and $30 for an IP. The BCM doesn't need to be the same number of doors and electric window features, as these aren't important in a Goblin. Even tried a 120MPH IP in my Goblin, it works fine, didn't need to recalibrate anything from the original 160MPH IP. The new BCM will give you new ODO numbers thou.

I think you're correct about the starter behavior. My battery isnt the problem. I too don't know how any of this is related to messing with the light sensor haha.

A new BCM did the trick. Everything is working and back to normal as far as I can tell. As an added bonus, it took 100,000 miles off of my odometer. ;) I'll probably update this in HP tuners if it is pretty straight forward.

Since I can never make a project easy. I decided to turn this $50 fix into a $180 fix. While swapping out my BCM I noticed my lead acid battery was making a mess, so I decided to swap it out with an AGM battery. During the process I ruined my 250 amp relay that I use for a battery disconnect/isolator. The corrosion caused the nut to seize on the terminal, and, well, the terminal came off before the nut. So I got a new one ordered. Now I get to wait on that to show up!

It's always something! A Goblin is a lot like other exotic things in the world - they always need attention and cost money to keep around.:p
It doesn't help we Goblin owners are constantly thinking about upgrading something. Whether it is more power, a wider tire, a new electronic, different wrap, or some other random customization, there is always something.

The only upside to winter (and it isn't a big one) is it gives me an excuse to tear into the car and upgrade some components.

I’m running the stock DF muffler now. I was running a stock ninja 600 (around 2000 I think) muffler I modified to work on the goblin. It was awesome, but a little loud. I added some muffler packing to quiet it down a little, but it moved the wrong way and plugged up the exhaust. I lost power when driving, got frustrated and goosed it. Sooooooo 17psi of boost and 100000% back pressure, something’s gotta give and it was the muffler.:D I’ll rebuild one day. To be honest, i would love to adapt a Ducati v4 exhaust to the goblin.

I used the stock cobalt exhaust flange, some pipe and flat plate to make an adaptor, then cut down the muffler and reattached the tailpipe.

Kids…..Do not try this at home…
Only professionals should attempt to launch dipsticks via backpressure…….

It's funny you say that, I have a Ducati Monster (S2R 1000) with the Termignoni exhaust, and I was thinking it would be so cool to have a carbon fiber exhaust.

I was asking about your exhaust because I LOVE the sound of the DF muffler, but I would like something with a little more pizazz. I have owned and ridden loud motorcycles; personally I'm not a fan. I don't want my goblin obnoxious to drive.
