V1 Traé’s Goblin (06’ SS/SC #501)

No, the kit comes with it all. However, you can mock up something for the front mount aftermarket exchanger to be a rear mount unit.

Ark :D
Not in stock builds, no. Sometimes the Cobalt kids on FB Marketplace will pick them up from you for some $$$. I suppose it would be possible to re-use the intercooler if you wanted to do something custom.

Shell is out of the building. They even took all the trash and junk i didnt need that I filled the car with. So much room for activities!

Pretty successful weekend, donors gone, parts are cleaned and somewhat organized. I stripped the engine of the wire harness to make me feel better about cleaning it. I plan to tape over all electrical connections and I have to think of a way to seal the exhaust ports since I got rid of the header. may do it the old fashion way with some elbow grease.

Few questions;
Rear calipers don’t seem to be in videos that I’ve seen, are they used?

Hubs - I plan to go to 5x114.3 with the option from DF. What all comes in that kit? and will I need to source any parts? (New bearings, rotors, etc.)

Has anyone used the sway bar?

Thank you all so much for the help so far! I’m officially done stripping the donor! So far I need a new clutch master cylinder and sway bar links if I find using the sway bar necessary. I also need to extract a few bolts, one out of the transmission securing the mount and one out of the mount. While test driving there was a nasty sounding clunk and after getting the engine pulled a bolt was broken off and the mount bolts were not fully tightened. The transmission bolt looks easy as there is still a decent amount sticking up. The mount bolt I’m worried about. May need to source a new mount.

My SC kit came with 4 new brake calipers. No brake pads...(well my 4 year old kit didn't) so you need to source those, or buy them from DF.

Lonny usually takes new hubs and redrills them to 5x114.3mm... but he will redrill your calipers if you want to ship them, but it probably will cost more in shipping than what the parts are worth. The hubs come with new bearings.

Some builders have made their own front sway bar. This would be the best option in my opinion.
Some of us run a rear sway bar, (me included) but I would only do this if you have a Quaife LSD differential.
I would guess that most builders don't run a sway bar.

That transmission mount is for the F35... I thought Lonny was welding up a metal mount, but I can't find it in the DF Store. Ask Lonny if he offers a replacement part.

My transmission is a LSD, did you use the sway bar from the cobalt? when I order I will email about the mount.

Attached is a screenshot of my cart. I’m not ordering right this second as I want to think about a few options I have selected and not selected. Does anyone see anything missing that you regretted not ordering the first time around? or see anything I have selected that you found unnecessary?

I sourced an 18mm sway bar off of a non-SS Cobalt, along with the rubber mounts for it.

FWIW, several of the gurus convinced me not to do the redrilled hubs. I plan to use adapter plates to get to the 5x114.3 pattern. Using redrilled hubs means not being able to run to the auto parts store for a replacement. Other than that, your order sheet looks a lot like mine!

depending on your timeline, I would go ahead and place your order. I placed mine in september and it hasnt shipped.

That’s a very good point and I think you’ve convinced me haha. What size spacer are you going with?? I’m sure the spacer will help letting a wider wheel clear but I’m not too knowledgable about the whole wheel offset mumbojumbo.

Once I start my build, I'll just use the cobalt wheels for mockup. I'll figure out wheels and tires later on. There are many threads about spacers in the wheels/tires subforum if you want to see what others have find

As Ross said on the sway bar. Use your ss end links but a stock cobalt sway bar. A ss sway bar is too tight.

Cobalt “comfort ride” sway bar Dorman 927-109

I went with 1.25” spacers in the front and 2.0” in the rear. The front of the goblin is 1” wider over all than the rear so I wanted to push the rear out further. That with a good alignment helps keep the rear from coming around as easy.

I’m in the same boat as you. I’ll wait and see what I can use without spacers

Try one of these wheel offset calculators.

Kit deposit has been paid :D

Only items I didn’t get from my previous cart were the button panel and redrilled hubs. I’ve been looking at other posts for button panels / steering wheel controls and like the idea of spacers to convert and move the wheels out more.

Kit # came through this morning. I will be #501, I missed 500 by one number but also won’t have the stress to have it be something super special :D
