V1 Traé’s Goblin (06’ SS/SC #501)

Like Chris-WNC I am using a UTV manual wiper from Amazon . I plan to remove it after inspection.
And yes, it's several inches taller than the windscreen.

I have the same one. It was enough for Michigan to sign off on it.

Is there a right and wrong way to install the windscreen?
I have seen it both in front of and behind the bracket. I currently have it behind the bracket but have been thinking that it may put extra stress on the screen at the bolt holes while driving and start to crack.

Anyone had any issues with both mounting methods? I could also be over thinking it.

I don't know that my way is correct, but like yours, mine is mounted behind the bracket. The first windscreen I had cracked a little at the mounting holes, but that hasn't happened again so I attribute it to overtightening the mounting hardware.

Also, I put a very thin layer of adhesive-backed felt between the bracket and the windscreen; it helps a lot with keeping moisture out from between the two, then drying while leaving behind a "pattern" of grit/dirt. Just a thought.

I put the frame behind the windshield. It makes more sense to me from a stress distribution standpoint, but my windshield also rubbed on the hood more with the frame in the front due to the slight lean.

My windshield is on the cockpit side of the brace and have had no issue. At GoblinFest 2024 I did notice about half of the vehicles had theirs on the front side of the brace. Gtstory makes a good point about stress, I put mine on the back to sort of hide my jigsaw cuts.

My windscreen is mounted on the front. I couldn’t get the holes to line up with the windscreen on the cockpit side.

The Amazon manual wiper comes with a 8mm ID (approx 12 mm OD) threaded tube, so you need a 12mm hole thru the windscreen and bracket.

This is a little large for the lever they provide. I substituted a 7mm tube instead.

To add to my last response, there's photos in the windscreen subsection of the Helpful Photo Albums thread that pretty clearly shows the windscreen as being mounted behind the bracket. I'm sure either way is fine, but if DF mounts it that way, I'll mount it that way, ya know?

I left mine installed. Hasn't bugged me so I just left it. I did have to drill one of the mounting holes for the windshield in order to install it.

Parking brake cables are installed and operate smoothly.

My new cables came with the mounting brackets and I did not use the clips that you drill a hole and insert into the subframe. If anyone would like these, send me a message and I’ll get them shipped out to you.

I think I can call the build of the goblin complete! other than a few additions that need temporarily added for inspection.
I purchased my donor on November 17th, 2023, received my kit February 18th, 2024, and put the last bolt in my windscreen October 7th, 2024.

Inspection scheduled for 10/28, wiper will be delivered Saturday, and I will be adapting a front bumper from a VW Thing (it was free) to fit the goblin and get through inspection. The dimensions are dead nuts for the brackets to line up with the holes located on the rear of the subframe. I will have to make a few brackets to move it up and out to miss the exhaust. I need to clean it up and put a coat of rattle can paint on it to freshen it up. The width will put the bumper about in the middle of the rear tires. I believe the code requirement is to be at least the width of the vehicle so I am hoping the inspector can accept it. What's a few inches amongst friends!? Even though the code also states if the vehicle was not manufactured with bumpers they are not required, some builders in Ohio have needed a rear so I am going to put it on anyways.

Next step is to sweet talk my insurance agent into covering the car. I would love to keep all the vehicles, house, and camper under one company but the last time I spoke with him he was very unsure. FINGERS CROSSED!

I’ve heard of insurance people saying NO at first but when you mention your other cars and home(and RV and boat)will probably get changed to the Company that insures your Goblin, SUDDENLY they figure out how to do what was formerly deemed impossible.
