V1 Jesse's (WI) Track Goblin #400 - 06 SS/SC Donor

T
I am through the thinning videos, and a few things aren't lining up. My donor is a 2006 LSJ.

The second thinning video has you remove the headliner connector and VCIM connector. I couldn't find either of those. I am guessing I don't have a VCIM, and I am guessing this is my headliner connector?

I have it labeled as rear seat connector, but I am guessing it came off the rear deck. Is this the headliner plug? If so, can I just thin all of the wires attached to it?
45253

Also I didn't see in the video about thinning the trunk light wiring. Is it safe to thin this out?
45254

I also have this random connector. It was under the console by the shifter, but wasn't connected to anything. Any ideas what it is?

In the thinning videos Adam talks briefly about a vacuum sensor on the brake reservoir. I am assuming that is for newer cars? Mine is only a 2 wire.

Also, at the end of the 2nd thinning video, all of the grounding lugs are free of the harness. None of mine are. Did I miss something? The brake reservoir and coolant bottle grounds are still attached as I didn't thin those connectors.

When I bought the kit I bought the new F23 transmission from DF at the same time. It was cheap enough that it seemed like a no brainer at the time. I also ordered the DF shifter with the kit as well. It's a good thing I did as well, the transmission was completely dry when I pulled the drain plug.
EMPTY!?? F35 Empty! Don't just throw it away, there are many that need it for parts. Also, as a guy that ran a old leaking 3 speed dry, it may not be trashed, I'll bet it wouldn't shift! I'd have filled it back up and tested. But the car is apart now, so not easy to test. I say tell the buyer!

I believe the mystery plug by the shifter is for the accessory power/lighter port behind the shifter. There are two on the console. Check and see if it plugs in to a lighter body. Save it at least, to install a second USB port or 12V power port somewhere in your cab. A little something to think about, red and red or red w/ a stripe wires are usually power supply and black is almost always ground.

"Rear seat harness 1" It could be VCIM/On Star feed? See if it fits the On Star module that is bolted into the rear deck. Google 06 Cobalt VCIM module.
The big power feed could be handy later, save or delete as you desire. Because IF it fed On Star it is probably ONLY OFF when disconnected from the battery and only has a fuse in line. "Big Brother is Always Watching!"* and On Star works even when the car ignition is off.
* (FYI: this is a reference to the book 1984. Not actually directly relevant to GM wiring.)

Quick update.

ah.b.normal was correct on both of the mystery plugs.

The unknown plug by the shifter was for the rear cigarette lighter. Makes sense that I didn't unplug that one, as the entire console was not screwed down, so the previous owner had been in there.

The "rear seat harness 1" is in fact the headliner plug. Not sure why mine looks so different from the video. I even went into the older archived videos and the headliner plug in those videos looks the same as in the newer videos. Am I safe to thin that out? Any LSJ guys out there run into the same thing?

As for the grounding lugs I'm still connected to the brake reservoir, coolant bottle, trunk light, headliner plug, and I believe one goes to the fuse panel. I'm not really sure what I need to do here.

I believe there is 3 or 4 different headliner plugs for my LSJ, depending on the options your donor had. One of my donors had cabin lights on the rear view mirror, and a sunroof.

I thinned out the headliner plug, and trunk light plug.

I also progressed through the next video to find my questions answered about the brake reservoir and coolant bottle.

I am most of the way through organizing the harness. I still need to label the dash connector and cut that out. I just need to get labels first.

As I was tidying the wires I noticed my wires weren't matching up. Granted I'm not fully taping up the wires until later, but I have a big bunch of wires next to the fuse box whereas the video has 2 thinner sets of wires. Not sure if this is just the difference with the LSJ or not?

I also noticed that the blue wire he set aside is coming from the light gray multiplug in the video. Mine is coming from the dark gray multiplug. I double checked and I don't have any blue wires in the light gray multiplug at all. Is this another LSJ difference?

To be honest I don't remember what colors they all are. I looked in my photo bank and do not have one of all the fuse blocks in the holder. Maybe someone else with an LSJ does.
There will be wires that are different colors and entirely possible that the fuse blocks change color too. It probably cost GM $0.05 less to go with a new block and that is a huge savings over the life of a vehicle program. Even more so if it is shared across other platforms.

Haven't updated in a while, life got in the way for a bit, and I had to re-focus for a while.

I picked back up where I left off, and progressed through to thinning the dash harness.

I am missing a few of the connectors that were thinned out in the video;
Passenger Airbag Light Connector
Traction Control Connector
Steering Angle Connector

I am assuming these are options that my donor doesn't have?

I also was a bit confused with the radio and amplifier connectors. In the video you thin out #1 and #2 Radio and Amplifier connectors. I have 2 radio and 3 amplifier connectors. I am guessing I just thin everything out? See pictures below for connectors.

45988

This is the extra radio connector.
45989
45990

And this is the extra amplifier plug.

I also worked ahead a bit in the videos to see if that would help clarify anything for me. From what I can tell, I have one extra connector. I have it labeled as info buttons. Could this be the steering angle connector?

Our LSJ donors don't have the yaw sensor, which I think is the steering angle connector you are talking about. I made a couple of videos of my LSJ harness to help label connectors.

Thanks Ross, I'll check those out.

I also forgot something pretty important.

When removing the dash connector from the dash harness, I have a pair of tan/black twisted wires still on the connector. The videos don't say anything about this. They go from the harness connector to the BCM connector. What do I do with these extra wires?

I don't remember that dash connector... but I have documented where all the GM high speed LAN wires go on my LSJ. That is what those tan/black twisted wires are for. Basically it is OBDii connector to Power Steering, to BCM to PCM.

Earlier in one of the videos I had to extend a set of data wires (same color I think) from the main fuse panel over to the BCM. I am guessing I need to attach these wires to the extended wires?
