I don't think I'm being helpful anymore, this is as much my curiosity as anything else now-

Did that 2.4 come out of a '12 Malibu? From what I've been able to find the only DI 2.4 Malibu is the mild hybrid, LUK engine. But if the LNF head was run on the 2.4 block, wouldn't that mean they do work together?

I know very little about E69 controllers and even less about any DI PCM that's not an E69. I do know that the early L61 and LSJ have crank reluctors that are different than most other GM setups. I believe, that the LE5, late L61, and LAP all use the same crank reluctor, and I haven't found anything that would indicate the LNF uses a different crank reluctor than those. Crank reluctor is the only reason I could think of that you couldn't run a 2.4 bottom end under an LNF head with an LNF computer. Flat top or dished pistons might not be as ideal for DI as DI specific shaped pistons, but that's pretty far out of my wheelhouse as well.

I would want to do something to confirm piston to valve clearance with all positions of the cam on a swap like this.

At some point you may run out of fuel on the LNF high pressure pump. There are some things you can do to improve it, but I think it gets expensive pretty quick.

Sounds like the pistons are flat top or dished with a flat bottom? The DI pistons - for the LNF - have a shaped dome. They look like this:

The reason for this is to direct the DI fuel injection spray for optimum distribution in the cylinder before ignition.

Hmmm, DS. I'll rescope these and get better pictures, but doesn't apprear to be a raised dome in the center of these pistons.

We'll figure this out because I want to know one way or another what's what, but these are close to what I have poor pictures of.

Still waiting to get clearer pictures on the pistons.

But in the mean time.

I'm going to transfer the F40 to my house.
Ive got the clutch ready, TOB spacer ready, my hardware is accounted for, just need an extra hand to get that 6spd up onto the motor. I cant manhandle it like I can the F35. And then... and then... drivetrain starts going in the car and that is exciting.

Suspension components are being built in my bedroom while I'm doing dad things. Control arms are assembled. Working on steering knuckles now. Going to paint the angled plates that get mounted to the top/bottom today and finish assembling in the next day or so. I'll post pictures so you guys can tell me I'm wrong, so I can get it right. :p Nah, I've downloaded a very solid bunch of pictures to compare these to and Ross just posted a link to Adam's car, I should be good.

BUT. LOL....

Guess who forgot to pick up parts from the powder coater... LAST YEAR!!! Last message I have from MOE over at APS was on July 10th, 2023 saying "I can't pick them up this week, but I'll be up next week sometime" but that's the last message I have. Wow, just wow.
Now, in my defense, I was ready to quit my job, which I changed 3 weeks later, changed phones and lost all of the incoming messages but had all of mine and found out that we were pregnant. So it was a very busy few weeks.

I texted MOE yesterday and asked if the parts were still around, hoping that the answer was a Yes and he said he thinks they are and he remembers the project and my frame coming through and to call him today. So, fingers crossed guys. All of this because I went to build my shifter and couldn't find my wiring tunnel caps.

YES! Child shows up and many priorities go askew! Usually in good ways! Congratulations on finding those parts! Hoping the offspring will eventually thank you! "DAD, What a neat car!" VS "What is that pile of parts in the garage?"

He doesn't have the parts. :(
He says I picked them up.
So either I misplaced them, or someone visited me in the carport and took them. I'm hoping I misplaced them somewhere. I'll look harder tonight.

Edit* - I think they're under my bed. *fingers crossed.

What are you guys using to clean powdercoat off of threads and clean rust as well?

I tried chasing the threads with a die but it's not clearing the coating off.

Glad you found them.

Just tap and dies with some penetrant. then some penetrant and fine steel wool for the rust.

The plan this weekend is to throw (yeah, easy choice of words), throw the clutch and trans on the built TOP END motor that I originally planned on using. The 100k motor with the ported head/stage2cams/springs/6758/opels and get that motor setup and tuned.

IDK what I'm doing with the mystery motor yet, mostly because idfk what it is or what it's worth. Gotta get it on a stand this summer, pull the valve cover, intake and oil pan and see whats on the inside.

Anyways. I've slotted time with my buddy Scott and if we can get the drivetrain assembled and on rollers, then I can keep moving forward until I can get another hand to help me move the frame onto the drivetrain and get it bolted up. For me... thats the hard part because I'm only one person.

Exciting stuff. I think I'm going to forego the PA title dream and just go Montana because it's easy and will get me on the road sooner, maybe even by the end of the year. Moving under its own power by years end would be SICK! Life is sooo busy!

I've got to say I know how that is! Just now in NC helping out family. I will have 2 weeks to get a huge list finished upon my return in order to go on HRPT 9 June. It does roll again, that is real progress, but I am miles away! Wish me luck as I'm gonna need all the Luck I can get!
