It took me like 2 hours to get insurance for ~$460/yr. It's limited to 6k miles a year and I had to sign a track exclusion, but the price is right.

I wouldn't feel comfortable running a 4 point harness unless it was a Schroth or Takata with an ASM shoulder belt. Just my thoughts though.

Pothole dodging is a skill you learn quickly unless you want to spend a lot of money. I wouldn't say we have bad drivers....they might be angry, overly aggressive and have a slight death wish but driving skills are OK.

Unfortunately the SOS didn't let me use the serial # as the VIN. So I do have to schedule the state inspector to come give it a new VIN sticker and then I can register and drive it. But no driving it yet, and I have to put back on all the inspection-required parts for the state guy.:( Apart from that disappointment, everything else went fine. They didn't have any issues with the TR-54 or the certification paragraph that I wrote.

The small silver lining is that I get more time to think of The World's Most Amazing License Plate Text™.
"GOBALT" wasn't taken a year ago when I checked, but it is now.

New To-Do List:
- Bumpers and squeegee wiper for state inspector
- Brake lights always on, swap wires until it works properly
- Button panel (parts in transit)
- Burp the air bubbles out of the engine coolant
- Maybe do the same for the intercooler loop, not sure if it needs it
- Mount the parking brake cables somehow so they actually work
- Alignment
- Fix DZUS fasteners on hood front bracket (not aligning with the frame holes)

Nice-To-Have:
- Check DTCs and see if there's any that need attention
- Quick release steering wheel (parts in transit)
- Injectors stock -> 60lb ZZP, pulley stock -> 2.9", then tune (start from Ghostknife's tune)
- Ignition relay control of heat exchanger fan
- Side panels

Just got a tracking number from DF for my detachable steering wheel and button panel kit! So now I don't have to rig up some janky horn button in case state inspector checks for it. Still no word on timing for that VIN sticker :(

Just got a call from the SOS inspector, set an appointment for tomorrow! Ideally she gives me the sticker, then I call Progressive to update the VIN on my insurance (that'll be fun since I got insured with the DF serial # when I was optimistic about that being accepted for the VIN), go get registered at the SOS and it's driving time!

Hopefully I can borrow the bumpers from @TravMac this evening. Maybe the inspector will care, maybe they won't. But it wouldn't hurt to eliminate the potential issue if I can.

Also need to swap the brake light wiring to the correct inputs (they are always on right now).

Yesterday I got the DF button panel mounted, making the electrical connections should be as simple as stripping some wire and lever splicing them correctly. Hazards and horn are probably the mandatory ones for inspection.

And finally I need to figure out the parking brake cable mounting. (would have been so much easier if I saved the Cobalt ones...)

Busy evening ahead.

Good call! I installed a 3rd brake light and since there were only 3 wires I know I got the wiring correct but it was on all the time. Your comment made me think to check the brake pedal sensor and sure enough it wasnt fully depressed at top of travel so that was my issue. I pushed the sensor in a bit to fully depress the switch and the issue is solved!

I ordered that kit last night. My aftermarket ones have a sheath that is too short so they are useless. It looks like these have a longer sheath and the inner cable length is adjustable (hence "universal"). Fingers crossed the inspector doesn't give my handbrake a yank today when they are here for the VIN sticker...

The inspector made a comment about the windshield, that it didn't have a DOT etching but that it "felt like glass". I just kept my mouth shut and let them proceed with the other parts of the inspection. Didn't need to demonstrate the functions of anything like horn or hazards or brake lights or headlights or anything. I was pretty surprised but not complaining.

Plated, registered, and DRIVING! First legal ride yesterday evening was amazing. I think it is fair to say that these cars are more dramatic and probably even more fun than my motorcycle. The supercharger sounds incredible. And the sensation of speed is so much higher. Even driving 20mph around the neighborhood feels like you're moving because it's so low.

But of course now I have a new to-do list:
- First thing: add preload to front suspension since I bottomed out and scraped the underbody on a couple of the deeper road dips
- Replace front tie rods (seized nuts)
- Continue alignment
- Check DTCs and see if there's any that need immediate attention
- Re-center the steering wheel
- Fix the turn signal auto cancel nub position
- Replace turn signal unit (won't stay when pressed for left)
- Swap low and high beams on the headlights
- Find and place my ambient light sensor so the headlights aren't on in the day
- Repaint the muffler (starting to flake off, I don't think I followed the instructions for curing the paint)
- Find a thinner seat cushion to drop my vertical position a bit
- Adjust rear view mirror for better visibility

Cold season projects:
- New clutch
- Check cylinder compression, especially #2 that hasn't blued the exhaust header like the other three
- Clean PCV valve
- Add screen to the hood front opening
- Ignition relay control of heat exchanger fan
- Add wideband O2 sensor and A/F ratio gauge
- Learn HP Tuners (definitely feel like I'm missing some power compared to my passenger rides in another supercharged LSJ at Dream Cruise)
- Injectors stock -> 60lb Bosch (not Siemens), pulley stock -> 2.8", then tune (start from Ghostknife's tune)

That's a fair point. I guess if I really want to have the lights off in a particular situation I could turn them off auto or switch to parking lights on the stalk.
