In this case a grinder.

First time Ive ever touched a welder. From the little knowledge I have I messed up by setting the voltage on the thickness of the steel, not the fastners and started to burn through them. Also, the wire speed was too quick IMO and I had to get further from it and actually had to cut it off because it fused together at one point.

Live and learn though. I may pick up a flux/mig welder and learn how to weld. Something I’ve wanted to do for a while.
Flux core mig will make you a terrible welder. I've tried for years to get a decent weld from mine and wasn't until I got on the gas did this welder make good welds. All the flux core is good for is making bugers.

I stripped out the hood fastners so I put in the hex ones. So much better. Even a grinder and paint can't make my first ever welds look like a 10 footer.

Guess it's a little too late to tell you, but you can just swap out the center of the dzus fastner...

Shes ready for inspection! Hope to get to the BMV to get the donor car salvage title in my name and inspection ticket so I can do that.

Got my crankcase ventilation line done. First was the clear line then swapped it out for PCV line.

Thanks guys on the welding stuff. I knew it wasn't going to be pretty but got the job done.

Just curious - Were the fenders and windshield necessary in Ohio?
Honestly don't know. There was discussion when I got there about it not being safety glass then we asked if it was even needed. They replied they didn't know, along with windwshield wipers, but would find out. Went outside for 45-60 minutes, we tested turn signals and lights, then he asked where I wanted my VIN tag. Didn't want to push my luck asking a bunch of questions so I just let it go.

No, there's something definitely wrong there. It will need to be removed and let use know what you find. My guess is the balls/sockets are messed up and maybe someone forgot to put some lubrication in there from the manufacturer. o_O

Believe it or not, they are the stocks with 126k on them. Just sanded and painted before I installed. Plan on ordering new this week.

BTW, the turbo axles - with the heavy center axle tube - are hard to come by. Almost every one I've looked at (and some I've ordered and returned) claim to be turbo axles - nope. I'm still looking for the correct replacement, without ordering custom.
Was just looking at getting a set of these on RockAuto. May as well replace both before I redo the alignment.
