V1 Traé’s Goblin (06’ SS/SC #501)

Traé
500! I Have not done any research regarding kit car production numbers but I do know I have been around some classic Italian sports cars that never made that number! IMO 500 is quite an achievement! Wow!
I did not get 500, I am 501. As @Sebnuts posted they are doing a drawing for #500.

I was watching some videos and realized that the KeyFob/TPMS is used from the donor. Is this sensor needed for anything other than TPMS on the goblin? Mine was just a bare circuit board and wasn’t in the tan box shown in the disassembly videos. I’m not terribly concerned with monitoring tire pressures as I can find an aftermarket solution if I decide I want it but I am worried that I will have security issues and the engine won’t start. Does that sensor have anything to do with that? Or is that the black device located on the ignition switch?

Just unplugged mine and went for a quick drive. No issues. Maybe it throws a code? You also can’t do that fun little gag where you “lock” the car and it chirps the horn.

Key fob didn’t work when the donor was alive anyways but that would be great to have haha
That’s great to hear there were no issues. Makes me feel better about it.

The light sensor isn't needed. In the early build videos, Lonny eliminated it. The TPMS/Keyfob might be related to the PK3+ Key security... but I don't think it is needed, but just a guess on my part. Lonny did keep it in the build... so maybe it is needed. The TPMS is set for a car the weight of a Cobalt, so it isn't useful for tires with 20 PSI in a goblin.

I’m reading a lot about eBay headers but can’t find one that says it will fit the 2.0l, only the 2.2/2.4. Is this just an issue on the cobalt? or are they not exactly the same? My old header had the Vband and was longer so I got rid of it.

That receiver on 2006 and older Cobalts is just for keyless entry and can be deleted without consequence, as I did. I believe on 2007 and newer Cobalts it is also part of the TPMS and reads the in-wheel sensors that '06 and older donors don't use.

The only difference I'm aware of in non-turbo Ecotec headers is the presence of an EGR port in the head. On LSJs that port is blocked off by the factory exhaust manifold and should be blocked off by replacement shorty headers.

Fwiw I have a ZZP shorty header I'm not using anymore and haven't gotten around to posting up for sale if you're interested in it.

All awesome news! I sent you a message for more details. Thanks @Rauq

And it begins!
Surprisingly enough I am looking forward to this

So?, you‘re crazy. Why does everyone say that like it’s a “BAD” thing? Get used to it.

And later, when the MOMENT comes, like the Skipper says, “Smile and wave Boys! Smile and Wave”. (And if needed, give ‘em the FINGER!)

You can do it, it only looks scary. Remember, there is always plan B which involves: one live chicken, a lunar eclipse, a bonfire, incantations to the resting soul of Nicola Tesla, etc, etc.... (Which I personally hope I never witness but desperate times call for desperate measures.)

Got 3/4 of the way through video 4 of the harness. I need to get the body to dash harness labeled before continuing.

Question;
I saved my rear accessory wire in hopes of having a phone / GPS charger. If you went this route, how did you plan for it while getting the harness finished up?? I want to get it placed in a convenient location but am fine with the wire being unwrapped in the harness if need be.

I ran one towards the cluster. Steering column and a few in the tunnel. I didn’t know where I would need them, so I left myself with options.

In the last section of wire harness video 4 they wrap up and state you should have;

Twisted data wire - I have these

Blue and green wires - I have these (Blue for 3rd brake light, green for the backup lamps)

2 wires for the fuel pump - I have 3 wires, while stripping the video instructs to cut the large grey, small tan and small purple wires to save for later. Am I missing a step? Where did the 3rd wire go?

1 pink wire for the coolant level - The only pink wire I have from the fuse box is for the intercooler pump. The coolant tank plug has a green wire and is fed from the BCM. Does the video use the pink wire for the coolant level since it is a base model?

On the headlight harness I’m planning to remove the fog lamps, is there any reason to keep these before I cut them out? Not sure if anyone has found a cool way to repurpose them.

Other than that I made some labels this morning to move along with finishing video 4. I have the headlight harness stripped and need to get a soldering iron to extend the grounds. I have run into minor differences but nothing major and am only questioning myself on the few items above.

Not all Cobalt donors have a coolant level sensor. Check your coolant overflow bottle, and see if there is one. Our wire is light green, not piink.
Your donor should have 2 wires for the fuel pump, and 2 wires for the fuel level sensor.
Lonny ran the purple wire from the fog lamps to his button panel, as an auxillary power source. It does shut off when you turn on the high beams, and has to be turned on everytime you turn the key back on. RGB LED light source? Either interior or exterior.

I do not have a picture of the wires I removed but I only saved the ones listed in my post according to the video. Do I need to find the PK/BK & YE/WH ones to reattach?
