V1 Frank's Florida Street Goblin Build (#227) - 06 SS, 2.4L donor

CaptFrank2001
I picked up 3 frames (kits) in Texas, mine #227, Jared's #230 & Patrick's #234. Today Patrick made it to my place in North Florida to pick up his frame. He is now headed home to central Florida.

Brake Pads - With a little homework & some help from my friends on this forum I figured it out. Picked these up at Advance Auto Parts. Carquest Wearever Gold Ceramic Brake Pads. Part number is: GNAD956. Fit perfect, front and rear.

Dust Covers - Have seen a couple of different ways to do this but this is what I did. Found the Dust Cover at Advance Auto Parts. Part number is: Dorman 13977. It is just a bit too small for a snug fit. Six wraps with Teflon Plumbers Tape solved that problem. Then they stick up about 1/4" too much. A couple whacks with a hammer solved that. Then added a piece of double sided sticky tape (see picture) to make it a snug fit. Added some grease and closed it up.

Brake Master Cylinder & Reservoir - Getting all these little projects done while waiting on my frame to get back from Powder Coat. Not sure if I have the fittings turned the right way but can adjust them once they are installed.

Wheel Adapters - Finally got my Wheel Adapters from Motorsport-Tech. They look great & the quality is excellent but they were not cheap. Took over 6 weeks for this custom order. Did a quick test fit and it's all good. Hope to have my frame back from Powder Coat later this week & I can finally get to work.

Love those wheels... I have them "Favorited" to purchase when I am ready. Did you go with staggered sizes, or all four the same? I think I am going to go with 18x10 in the rear and 17x8 in front.

The hub centric is machined to your wheel? Many people miss this when doing wheel adapters and it is really critical for runout when the wheel and tire are mounted. :D

I went with 17" x 9" wheels all around. Front tires are 245 /45 R17 which I believe is the recommended size for 9" wheels. The rear tires are
275 /40 R17 which I believe are the maximum (recommended) size.

Powder Coat - Well after a long discussion with my painter I have decided to switch from lollipop red to illusion Cherry. He said The illusion cherry is a much more forgiving paint and much easier for him to work with.

Yeah, @OptimizePrime found these dudes so I got some as well, Frank is the 3rd I know of to have used them. They're great quality but he wasn't lying, they're about 2-3x the cost of other brands, however they're the only ones that have machined hub centric lips cut to size.

Perfect fit on ours.

I've got these also, work very nice. I added them so I clear the front control arms at full steering lock instead of rubbing.

One thing I ran into, I ordered the minimal thickness required to have the original studs hide in my new wheels clearances (looks like the picture CaptFrank posted), the new stud length on the adapters was ~3mm too long to let my lug nuts seat to the wheel. The lug nuts would bottom out on the end of the stud so I had to grind off the end of the new studs to remove 3-4mm. If the adapter had been that much thicker in my case, they would have been ready to bolt on without issue. If I was using open lug nuts instead of closed, this also would not have been an issue but it was cheaper to grind and have a finished lug look than go buy new ones.

Exactly. The wheels I am using have relief's machined into the wheel to allow for the stud length that sticks out beyond the adapters. I did NOT have to modify the stock hubs in any way. Perfect fit.

Front Grill - Time to make a grill. Did a cardboard cutout first. Then cut the Expanded metal (steel) from the template. Test fit and adjusted a bit. Then tack welded on some 1/8" flat bar mounting brackets. Need to put in a few rivet nuts & then it's off to Powder Coat.

The Big Day - FINALLY got the frame back from Powder Coat. It is painted "Illusion Cherry" from Prismatic Powders. Tomorrow the build begins. Last two pictures are the middle stages of the Powder Coat process.
