I'm curious if anyone had to use a torch to "persuade" any bolts. And if you did, how did you deal with all the melted plastic and stink around the upper seat belt torx bolts? Man, those things were tight! o_O

I used a propane torch to break the jam nuts on my inner/outer tie rods loose, but that was the only time I intentionally used fire on my build. There was an accidental fire involving a moving blanket and the angle grinder though lol

Ark :D

Haha! One day during the tear-down of my first donor, I lit my lounge-around pants on fire with an angle grinder while I was wearing them. Thankfully, I got them put out before they burnt my junk.

I set one of my favorite shirts on fire while I was in it a few years back with the sparks from a grinder. You never heed the warnings until you see/feel it yourself. Another lesson learned. :D

The shop aprons are pretty good if you don't mind looking like a hipster. I live in the PNW, so I embraced it ironically while posting about my hand built, bespoke, artisinal racing car lol

Didn't realize I had 2 more T50 torx bolts to remove. Thought I was out of the woods. Looks like another trip to the store.

Honestly, those bolts aren’t reused unless you’re reusing the stock seat belts. I’d save the torx bits and effort and just cut the plastic around the bolts.

Milestone, maybe? The heart of the beast has been removed! Got the engine dropped and pulled out tonight. Hopefully the rest of stripping the car goes as smoothly if not more so. It'll require some cleaning, but things are looking pretty good. It's funny how much bigger the engine feels once it's removed from the car. Definitely had a fun time dragging it up into the garage.
Looking good!
If you plan on keeping those axles, you may want to support them so the bearings and cages do not get damaged.

Wanna know why you are breaking them? You are using the wrong t50. There is a seat belt T50

I saw that when I was looking through that post originally. However I didn't want to order and have to wait for a special tool that'll never get used again for anything else. I only broke one and it was harbor junk. Got a new one for 3 dollars from Home Depot. I ended up stripping out the last bolt on the seat belt reel and taking the cutting wheel to it. All good now!
