V1 LeoZug's Montana Street Goblin - '05 Cobalt SS donor

So I put power to the fuel pump with an external battery and could hear it run then I bled that schrader valve and got good fuel pressure but it still didn’t fire. That tells me maybe I don’t have spark? Could I pull one of the plugs out and check if it zaps? Im also aware that the fuel pump working with an external battery doesn’t mean that the car’s system is getting power to it. I’m gonna still work on confirming that.

Any chance your fuel lines between the pump hat and fuel filter are backwards? Not sure what that'd do but decent chance it'd kill fuel pressure.

The fuel lines out of the pump are permanent and they only go to the fuel filter one way so I don’t think that’s it. I tested the spark plug outside the cylinder and I didn’t see a spark. Gonna get new plugs and try again.

How did you test the spark plug outside the cylinder? Did you ground the body of the plug? Were you cranking the engine to generate the spark or by some other means? A spark can be heard sometimes better than it is seen, did it make a snapping noise even if you didn't see a spark?

I grounded the threads of the plug and had the plug stuck into the rubber boot thing attached to the coil. It seems like the plug needs to really be pushed with some force into the rubber boot to stay engaged. It’s tough to tell if it was engaged. I had all the lights off with a dark background hoping to be able to see the spark. Then I cranked. I didn’t see anything.

Do I need to be cranking or just in ACC mode?
If you are asking me, no not cranking. Turn the key on like you are about to start but don’t try to start it. everything should come on, dash should light up with all the warning lights then turn off (systems check), you should hear the fuel pump come on for 2 seconds (which we know is not happening) and you should hear another odd rotational click noise from the throttle body. If you are not hearing all of that, you have a data/electrical type problem.

Ok so I watched the video and besides the lightning the dash I got nothin. No reaction when I push the gas pedal, no sound from the throttle body and no fuel pump sound. My front heat exchanger fan turns on though when the key is in the second position.

Ok. So odds are there’s no spark or injector pulse either. There’s either a data or electrical issue somewhere. A connector may not be seated correctly in the bcm, ecm, fuse box, ect. Could be as simple as a ground not connected or the there’s paint/powder coat on the terminal making for a bad connection. Things like that.

I went through my 3 main grounds on the car (battery box, steering column, and frame by rear fuse box) and cleaned all the powder coat to test ground. They all seem good now with my volt meter. I do still have a purple plug by the engine that had a twin that isn’t plugged in. As well as the square one. Someone said these aren’t needed. I also have one of the old red radiator plugs still unconnected. I am able to crank at this point. For what that’s worth.

First one needs to be plugged in. Looks like a main harness to injectors and such. The second one doesn’t (Post cat HO2S).

I pointed out the 3 connectors in the link above.
1. Engine to Body harness
2. Coil packs
3. Throttle body
